To the Editor:
The Greater Wildwood Elks Lodge No. 1896, located at First and New Jersey avenues in North Wildwood, had a beautiful mural painted on the New Jersey Avenue side of its building.
They have the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines, but no Coast Guard. Why?
I was told by someone there, that there is a Coast Guard emblem; rather small but nevertheless, it is there. Problem is the average person doesn't know any of the service emblems today.
Another reason given to me is the Coast Guard is under Homeland Security. The Elks Lodge members should look up the history of the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard played a big part during the D-Day invasion, as well as the whole World War II history. They have also served in Korea and Vietnam, as well as Iraq.
That being said, I think the Coast Guard deserves their name on the wall.
Cape May County is a Coast Guard Community. Please give the Coast Guard the respect it is due.
