To the Editor:
While visiting Wildwood for the first time during the week of July 4 with a family from overseas, we opted for dinner one evening downtown with a side visit to a used bookstore.
We were surprised by the parking meters. Coming from the Washington area, we are no strangers to $2-per-hour rates, but these streets were empty.
We did not want to use the ParkMobile app since our friends were foreign, but finding $8 worth of quarters was an adventure. Then, one meter would not work.
We were the only two cars visible for almost three blocks. I couldn't help but notice that many stores were vacant and others showed “for sale” signs.
The $8 addition to our dinner bill was unappreciated. We wonder if the meters are accelerating the decline of businesses on the street.
