To the Editor:
I ran into Chief of Police Christopher Leusner at a Middle Township Committee meeting and asked why sometimes we have an officer directing traffic at The Lighthouse Church on Sunday mornings after a service and sometimes they don't.
It was Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday when there was a large attendance and no on-duty officer helped the attendees safely enter onto Route 9 to prevent an accident.
The chief shocked me with his response - the church needs to pay for an officer. Boy, have things really changed. The church must now pay to provide traffic safety.
What's wrong with an officer getting out of the patrol car and providing this public service? Who would pay if there was an accident investigation at this location?
