COURT HOUSE — Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Chief Christopher Leusner of the Middle Township Police Department announced a joint investigation into a bias incident which took place in Rio Grande.

On the evening of Nov. 8, the Middle Township Police Department was notified of stuffed animals hanging in rope nooses above a political sign for Tim Alexander, a Black candidate for Congress. A subsequent investigation by the Middle Township Police Department and Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office revealed video footage of a white female with blond hair exiting a late-model dark-colored sedan, that appeared to be a Buick, and hanging these stuffed animals from a tree, according to a news release from the prosecutor.
Sutherland and Leusner stated this is an ongoing investigation and they are asking the public for assistance identifying the sedan in the pictures along with the female driver. The late model four-passenger sedan with chrome trim and tinted windows was seen parked in the area where the incident occurred, according to the release.
