PETERSBURG – On the consent agenda for Upper Township Committee’s Sept. 12 meeting, one item was removed for separate discussion: appointing a new member to the township’s Zoning Board.
Committee member Kim Hayes pushed for a candidate who lives on Strathmere, suggesting that the island neighborhood should have representation. She also advocated adding a member who is a woman.
Hayes nominated the president of the Strathmere Improvement Association, but the nomination failed. The woman is officially a resident of Pennsylvania, although she spends “most of her time” in Strathmere.
According to information provided by township administration, an individual must be a resident of the community to serve on one of its boards.
A vote was taken and the original nominee, Daniel Rainear, was approved, with Hayes and Pancoast dissenting.
After the vote, Mayor Curtis Corson noted “the zoning board is seriously back-logged with review of applications.”
