SEA ISLE CITY – Sea Isle City Council introduced a new flood prevention ordinance May 23.
The new ordinance is an important action in the effort to recover the city’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Community Rating System (CRS) level 3 status. The city dropped to a level 4 in April, leaving property owners with a 30% discount on flood insurance premiums instead of 35%.
The 35-page ordinance includes an increase in the design flood elevation level for new construction or major renovation projects, details on the duties of the city’s floodplain administrator, specifications for permits and inspections, and rules regarding temporary structures.
Mayor Leonard Desiderio thanked solicitor Paul Baldini and city floodplain manager Neil Byrne for their efforts in developing the ordinance, which will come up for second reading and a required public hearing at the June 13 council meeting.
