PETERSBURG - In late September, representatives from Upper Township administration are planning to meet with officials from the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) regarding opening the pedestrian/bike lane, that travels over the Great Egg Harbor Bridge on the Garden State Parkway.

Township officials were perplexed as to why the 10-foot-wide, protected lane on the west side of the bridge has not been opened for public use.

While there is a concern about pedestrians and bicyclists exiting the lane on the north side of the bridge safely, township officials believe the lane could be open, temporarily blocking the access/exit on the north side until the concerns are resolved.

Officials were optimistic that NJTA would soon allow entry from Beesley's Point on the south side of the bridge for users to enjoy the recreational opportunity and vistas over the 3,800-foot span.
