AVALON – At its Feb. 13 meeting, Avalon Borough Council voiced support to share its Code Blue alert warming center with Stone Harbor. The warming center is in the Avalon Senior Center, adjacent to Borough Hall and next door to the borough’s Public Safety Building.
Neither community is required under state law to designate a warming center for those exposed to the elements during Code Blue alerts. The law only requires municipalities with a “documented homeless population of at least 10, as noted in the most recent Annual Point in Time Count.”
Avalon Mayor Martin Pagliughi said that the borough moved ahead with the warming center to support any residents of the two communities who may temporarily lose heat during a Code Blue emergency.
