WILDWOOD CREST – According to an ordinance introduced Nov. 6, Wildwood Crest Borough Commissioners have "determined that the high level of pedestrian traffic resulting from the use of Sunset Lake Bayfront Park ... has created conflicts with vehicular traffic on New Jersey Avenue and a danger to the public.”
Commissioners introduced three ordinances to increase safety measures, including reducing the speed limit from 25 to 20 miles per hour, in both directions, along Sunset Lake, from Rambler Road to Miami Avenue. The speed on Bayview Drive, from Nashville to St. Paul avenues would also be reduced.
Box trucks and other large vehicles, i.e., vehicles with an attached trailer, a house car or camp car, may not park along Sunset Lake. According to the ordinance, the measure would “preserve scenic resources by preserving the views and open space of park land ...”
Prohibited areas include Rambler Road, extending to Atlanta Avenue on the western side of New Jersey Avenue, and Miami Avenue on the eastern side. Fines can't exceed $500 (or less than $50) and/or drivers can't be imprisoned for more than 90 days.
Motorists would also not be able to turn right on red at Rambler Road and New Jersey Avenue. This would be from May 1 to Oct. 1.
All three ordinances will be presented upon second reading Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
