Early Morning Erma Structure Fire Brings Multi-Agency Response

Firefighters battle July 4 blaze at a Tabernacle Road home.

The following was received from a law enforcement agency.

ERMA – On July 4 at about 3:33 a.m., Lower Township Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Tabernacle Road for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, the residence at 780 Tabernacle Road was fully engulfed.

Patrol officers met with the resident, William B. Beheler, who was outside the residence, standing in the driveway. Beheler advised responding officers that no one was inside the residence and that he was unsure how the fire started. 

Erma Volunteer Fire Department was assisted by Town Bank, Villas, Rio Grande, Cape May, West Cape May, Green Creek, and Goshen fire departments joined the multi-agency response.

Also on scene was the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office, Lower Township Patrol and Detective Bureaus, Lower Township Fire and Building Officials, Atlantic City Electric, MEDCOM; Lower Township, Middle Township and Upper Township Rescue, AtlantiCare MICU Paramedics, as well as the Red Cross.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
