VILLAS – A Villas man was arrested June 2 and charged with possession and distribution of child pornography.
Lower Township Police Department, working with the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, arrested Jason Brown, 42, of the 100 block of Cloverdale Avenue.
Brown was alleged to have downloaded, possessed, and distributed videos/images of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
The investigation stemmed from a National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (N.C.M.E.C.) CyberTip that revealed an unidentified subject, who was subsequently identified as Brown, had downloaded, possessed, and distributed child pornography.
A multiunit task force, including the Cape May County Regional S.W.A.T. Team, Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office High-Tech Crimes Unit & Internet Crimes Against Children (I.C.A.C.) Task Force, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI-Atlantic City) and Lower Township Police Department executed a court-authorized search warrant on Brown’s Cloverdale Avenue residence.
As a result of the search, two computers, a camera, various prescription legend drugs and a cellphone were seized from the residence. Investigators allegedly found an account containing over 1,000 videos/images of child pornography.
Brown was arrested and charged with second-degree distribution of child pornography, second-degree possession of child pornography, third-degree possession of CDS (controlled dangerous substance), and possession of drug paraphernalia, a disorderly persons offense.
Brown is the fourth individual to be arrested on child pornography charges in Cape May County since Feb. 10.
Brown was processed and lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility, pending court proceedings.
Individuals charged with a second-degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of five to 10 years in New Jersey state prison.
