UPDATE: Juvenile Arrested, 3 Officers Injured in Out-of-control Subject Incident

RIO GRANDE – The Middle Township Police Department responded to Fresh Custom Upholstery, 1127 Route 47 South, Rio Grande, for an out of control subject. 
According to a release, the first officer encountered the subject clad in underwear briefs and causing damage inside the business.  Upon contact with the officer, the subject removed his underwear. 
The officer attempted to place the subject under arrest; however the subject resisted and attempted to remove the officer’s handgun from the holster. 
The second officer arrived and prevented the subject from obtaining the officer’s firearm. Additional officers arrived, and the subject was placed into custody. 
The subject, a 17-year-old male, was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. 
Three Middle Township officers were injured during the incident and were also treated at Cape Regional Medical Center and were released. 
One officer received a dislocated shoulder, another officer received a head injury and a third officer was treated for glass in his leg.
The Lower Township Police Department, the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office and Cape May County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit assisted. Middle Township EMS and Lower Township EMS transported the injured parties.
The subject was charged with attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer, two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, and criminal mischief.

RIO GRANDE – The Middle Township Police Department responded to Fresh Custom Upholstery, located at 1127 Route 47 South, in Rio Grande, Jan. 23, at around 1:47 p.m., for an out-of-control subject.
According to a release, upon arrival, officers encountered the subject, who was unclothed and causing damage inside the business. Officers attempted to place the subject under arrest; however, the subject resisted, and it took several officers to place the subject in custody.
The subject, a 17-year-old male, was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Three Middle Township officers were injured during the incident, and were also treated at Cape Regional Medical Center.
The Lower Township Police Department, the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office and Cape May County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit assisted on scene. Both Middle and Lower townships’ emergency medical services (EMS) transported the injured parties. Charges are pending against the juvenile.

Any charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless they are proven guilty.
