OCEAN CITY – A therapist who was accused of stealing over $4,000 from clients has avoided jail time, NJ Advance Media reported.
Ashley Crooks, 32, of Ocean City, owned Counseling by the Sea, a therapy office based in the northernmost shore town in Cape May County.
NJ Advance Media reported Crooks was charged with theft by deception and unlawful use of credit cards; the Prosecutor’s Office said she used the clients’ credit cards to pay for services from a psychic reading app.
Crooks’ website and social media pages have been taken down and she has surrendered her therapy license, NJ Advance media reported. She will enter a pre-trial program to avoid being convicted of theft charges.
Any charges are accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
