The following is based on information received from a law enforcement agency. The person(s) named is innocent unless proven otherwise in court.

WILDWOOD - The Wildwood Police Department was dispatched to the 200 block of East Montgomery Avenue  June 1, at about 12:56 p.m., for the report of a handgun found there.  

According to a release, upon arrival officers learned that a motel housekeeper there entered a room to perform cleaning services and found a loaded 9mm handgun.  

Because the room was unoccupied at the time, the gun was secured by police and officers awaited the return of the room's tenants.

A short time later, the tenants arrived in two separate groups.  The first group was detained without incident, however, the second group fled when approached by police.  

After a short foot pursuit, the individuals of the second group were detained.

A motor vehicle associated with the tenants was also secured and a court-authorized search warrant was executed on the car, resulting in an amount of CDS / marijuana being recovered from within.

As a result of this investigation, conducted by the Wildwood Police Department Detective Division and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, the following were charged:

* Maxwell Beattie, 18, of Sicklerville, was charged with: unlawful possession of a weapon.  This charge was placed on a warrant complaint and he was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility as per bail reform guidelines.

* Nikia Alleyne, 19, of Browns Mills, was charged with: possession of controlled dangerous substance (CDS)/ marijuana in an amount over 50 grams, possession of CDS / marijuana with the intent to distribute in an amount over one ounce, possession of CDS / marijuana with the intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public park, possession of CDS / marijuana with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of Wildwood High School, and obstruction of justice. He was released with a summons complaint as per bail reform guidelines.

* Britt Nazir, 21, of Browns Mills, was charged with: possession of CDS / oxycodone, obstruction of justice, and possession of CDS / marijuana.  

He was released with a summons complaint as per bail reform guidelines.

* Rhashon Whye, 25, of Camden, was charged with: possession of CDS / Percocet. He was released with a summons complaint as per bail reform guidelines.

* Wharlin Olivero-Contreras, 23, of Camden, was charged with: obstruction of justice.  He was released with a summons complaint.
