AVALON - The Avalon Police Department received a 911 call from the west block of 14th Street, at approximately 3:50 p.m. May 27, reporting someone was attempting to steal an Avalon pool truck.

According to a release, on arrival, officers found the subject, Rene Antonio Berrios-Carrasquillo, 42, of Erma, outside of the pool truck taking off his clothes. While officers attempted to place Berrios-Carrasquillo in a patrol vehicle for transport to the police headquarters, he became combative, kicking three officers before the officers could subdue the individual.

It was subsequently learned that the original vehicle that Berrios-Carrasquillo arrived in was reported stolen by the Lower Township Police Department earlier in the day.

At the police department, Berrios-Carrasquillo, acted erratically and was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center for observation. He was combative throughout the process.

After being released from Cape Regional Medical Center, he was transported back to the Avalon Police Department, where all charges were placed on warrants. He was then transported to the Cape May County Correctional Facility.

Berriois-Carrasquillo was charged with numerous offenses, including aggravated assault on a police officer.
