The following is based on information received from a law enforcement agency. The person(s) named is innocent unless proven otherwise in court.
NORTH CAPE MAY - Lower Township Police were dispatched to the 600 block of Wayne Avenue, North Cape May for a possible gunshot victim July 2, at about 9:40 p.m.
According to a release, officers made contact with the caller, who was not shot.
The male victim had a significant laceration above his left eye, which was bleeding. He reported to the officers that the homeowner at 601 Wayne Ave., William Lyman Jr., had threatened him with a black handgun and that Lyman had discharged the gun into the air twice.
The victim then stated that Lyman struck him in the head with the gun, causing the laceration. The victim was subsequently transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for further treatment.
As additional officers arrived, they set up a perimeter on the residence and made contact with the suspect’s wife, who went outside and spoke with officers.
A short time later, Mr. Lyman walked up to the officers and was taken into custody without incident. He appeared to be intoxicated at the time of his arrest.
Mr. Lyman was transported to police headquarters for processing.
Municipal Court Judge Thomas Hillegass authorized a warrant charging William Lyman Jr. with aggravated assault and several weapons-related offenses.
He was subsequently lodged in Cape May County Correctional Facility.
Hillegass also approved a search warrant for the residence to locate the weapon.
Several firearms were located and seized under the authority of the court-authorized search warrant.
