WILDWOOD CREST - The Wildwood Crest Police Department responded to the intersection of New Jersey Avenue and Rambler Road July 14 for a report of a bicyclist struck by a motor vehicle.
According to a release, upon arrival, officers found a female bicyclist in the road with severe injuries. The female, identified as Gina Graziano-Hempton,40, of Wayne, was treated for her injuries by responding officers before being transported to Atlantic City Medical Center City Division via Medivac helicopter.
The vehicle involved remained on scene and the driver, Joseph Demayo, 39, of Philadelphia, who did not sustain any injuries, was cooperating with investigating officers.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Wildwood Crest Police Department with the assistance of the Cape May County Prosecutors Office.
In recent weeks, there were several other incidents involving bicyclists and motor vehicles at different locations in the borough, although there were no serious injuries in any of those incidents.
The Wildwood Crest Police Department reminds the public to use caution on the roadways during the busy summer season. Chief Joseph McGrath stated, “Bicyclists should always follow the rules of the road and wear protective equipment such as a helmet.”
He continued by stating “Vehicles are also encouraged to share the road and use caution in areas with heavy bicycle traffic.”
