Crash Leads to DWI Arrest

Lower Township police officers investigate Nov. 8 crash in Villas that led to a driving while intoxicated charge against a local man.

The following is based on information received from a law enforcement agency. The person(s) named is innocent until proven otherwise in court.

VILLAS - A Villas man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a Nov. 8 crash.

According to Lower Township police, on Nov. 8,  at about 1:42 a.m., they received multiple reports of a single-car crash on Georgia Avenue in Villas.  

Initial reports stated that the occupants of the vehicle were possibly trying to leave the scene.

Officers arrived shortly after receiving the initial reports and found that a white Ford sedan had crashed into a tree after it was driven across the lawn at 24 Georgia Ave. and broke through a fence.  

Initial investigation revealed that the occupants had fled the crash scene on foot and that the vehicle had a Florida registration.

Officers began to search the area for the vehicle's occupants.  During the investigation a passenger in the vehicle, Aaron Wexler, 20, of Villas, returned and admitted to being in the vehicle with his brother-in-law, Damion L. Silver, 27, also of Villas, who was identified as the driver.  

During the search of the area, officers located Silver walking  in the 100 block of Frances Avenue.  After he at first denied that he was the driver of the crashed vehicle, Silver admitted to being the operator.

Officers detected that Silver exhibited signs of intoxication and administered field sobriety tests.  After to the field sobriety tests, Silver was arrested on scene, transported to Lower Township Police Headquarters, processed and released to his wife in accordance with Lower Township Police policies and procedures.  

His vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded in accordance with John’s Law.

Damion L. Silver was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, and reckless driving.
