WILDWOOD – All six local high school basketball teams participated in the nineteenth annual Boardwalk Basketball Classic Tournament held at the Wildwoods Convention Center from Dec. 23 through Dec. 30.
In girls action, Ocean City won the G.W.I.T.D.A. Championship title with a close 46-40 win over Methacton High School on Dec. 27. Danielle Donoghue led the team with 18 points, five rebounds and two assists. The Red Raiders remain undefeated at 6-0 as of Dec. 29 and will return to regular season action on Jan. 3 when they host Absegami.
The Wildwood girls rolled over Cumberland Regional, 49-21, in the Kaitlin Anzelone Memorial Championship game on Dec. 27. Maddie McCracken led the Warriors with a game-high 18 points, five assists and three rebounds while teammate Tracey Young added 13 points, six rebounds and an assist. The Warriors stand at 4-1 as of Dec. 29 and will return to action on Jan. 4 to host Gloucester City.
In boys action, Lower Cape May won the Jay Craven Memorial Championship title with a 49-37 win over Boys Latin of Philadelphia on Dec. 28. Pat Holden led the Caper Tigers with a game-high 20 points, five assists and three assists while teammates Pat Moore added 10 points with four assists and four rebounds and Zach Cerasi added eight points. They are 4-1 as of Dec. 29 and will return to action on Jan. 3 at Oakcrest High School.
The Wildwood boys easily won the Bernie McCracken Memorial Championship 62-26 over MaST Community Charter on Dec. 30. Tyler Tomlin and Marquel Matthews led the Warriors with 15 and 13 points, respectively. They stand at 3-3 as of Dec. 30 and will return to action on Jan. 4 at Gloucester City.
The Wildwood Catholic boys won the Doug DeWeese Memorial Championship game 43-33 over Father Judge High School on Dec. 30. Charles Fields posted a double double for the Crusaders with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Caleb Fields added 17 points. The Crusaders stand at 6-0 as of Dec. 30 and will return to action at Atlantic City on Jan. 5.
