CLERMONT – Dozens gathered for a chili cook-off to raise money and show appreciation for local volunteer firefighters during N.J. State Firemen’s Convention Weekend, Sept. 19. More than fifteen contestants entered closely-held recipes to be judged by a panel of firefighters.
The event was hosted by Little Oaks Campground, Clermont, and proceeds benefited the Ocean View Volunteer Fire Company, according to a release.
Campground owner, and event sponsor, Judy Laporta, hopes to make it an annual event; “We wanted to give something back to our local heroes, and show them how much we appreciate everything they do. Special thanks to all of the contestants who made it possible, and everyone who came out to enjoy the chili and donate to a great cause.”
Fire Chief Michael DeLuca, one of the judges, thanked Laporta and the crowd, “Ms. Laporta knows us, she knows the type of program we run. The volunteers really appreciate your support.”
