CREST HAVEN  -   The aroma of fried calamari filled the hallway at Cape Tech Jan. 24.

Students in the Natural Science Program of study demonstrated their acquired marine biology knowledge along with a real-world Calamari Cook-Off.

According to a release, three judges from the industry scored students on three challenges which included a squid dissection, a presentation on global consumption and commercial fishing of squid and last but not least, the cook-off challenge.

Hanna Toft is the Natural Science Technology Program of Study instructor and the FFA advisor.

Chef Lisa Shriver, of Harpoons on the Bay, and Hans Toft, former Natural Science Program of Study instructor, viewed the presentations and used a scoring rubric to rank the teams and select a winner.

The Natural Science Program of Study students are prepared for further education in marine biology or for entry-level occupations in fisheries, fish markets, water treatment and environmental operations and more.
