Catherine M. Walsh, 94, of Cape May Court House, NJ, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020. She is survived by her daughters, Eileen McElrone of Aston, PA and Jackie Krail of Harleysville, PA. She is also survived by a stepdaughter, Dolly Desiderio of Newark, DE, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.Cathy, or “Cass” as she was affectionately known, was born Catherine Bernero in South Philadelphia on April 4, 1925. Financial hardship forced Cathy to drop out of high school and work to help support her family. She later enrolled in the Army in her teens and fulfilled her duty as a WAC while traveling around the country. After the Army she married John Gillespie, also of South Philadelphia, and worked various jobs in the Philadelphia area to support her own family. Always a hard worker, Cass went back to school and got her GED while in her 50’s. She later settled in the Cape May area with her second husband Aloysius Walsh in 1995.Cass was a feisty, resourceful person who was perpetually “39 years old”.
