Cape May County Celebrates National Night Out

National Night Out is a community-police awareness-raising event in the U.S., held the first Tuesday of August. The event has been held annually since 1984 and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada. The “Night” is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch, and other anti-crime efforts. Check out our rundown of where and when to celebrate the event throughout Cape May County:
Avalon
Tuesday, Aug. 4th, at 6 p.m.

Cape May
Tuesday, Aug. 4th at 6 p.m.
Where: Cape May Elementary School Recreational Field, 921 Lafayette Street, Cape May
Dennis Township
Tuesday, Aug. 4th at 6 p.m.
Where: Dennis Township Rec Complex, 565 Dennisville Road, South Dennis
Dennis Township’s Annual National Night Out celebration will be held at the Recreation Complex (565 Dennisville Rd., So. Dennis) Tuesday, August 4. The event begins at 6 p.m. and ends with a fireworks display at dusk. Included in the celebration will be crime prevention exhibits, drug and alcohol awareness, music, inflatables, carnival games, face painting and free soft pretzels and sodas. Additional food items will be available for purchase.  
Lower Township
Tuesday, Aug. 4th at 6 p.m.
Where: Lower Cape May Regional High School, 687 Route 9, Erma
The Lower Township Police Department invites citizens to attend this year’s National Night Out. It will be held Aug. 4 between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Lower Cape May Regional High School, 687 Route 9 in Erma. There will be public safety displays, games, pony rides, complimentary refreshments, entertainment and lots of family fun. 
Middle Township
Tuesday, Aug. 4th at 6 p.m.
Where: Davies Sports Complex, 626 Goshen Road, Court House
North Wildwood
Tuesday, Aug. 4th at 5:30 p.m.
Where: Bill Henfey Park, 8th Avenue Field, North Wildwood
Held at Bill Henfey Park, formerly 8th Avenue Field in North Wildwood from 5:30-10 p.m. A yearly event that offers an ideal opportunity to build neighborhood unity and strengthen police-community partnerships in a continuing effort to build a better city and safer America. City departments will set up displays around the block, representing police, fire, public works, beach patrol and recreation. Enjoy a free barbecue, games, various activities for children, hourly giveaways and more. A movie will begin at dusk. Sponsored by the City of North Wildwood Police Department. Sea Isle City
Tuesday, Aug. 4th at 6 p.m.

Stone Harbor
Tuesday, Aug. 4th at 6 p.m.
Where: Water Tower Parking Lot, 95th Street, Stone Harbor

On Tuesday, August 4, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Sea Isle City Police Department will host a National Night Out celebration at the Excursion Park Band Shell, located on JFK Boulevard at the Promenade. As is the case in towns and cities throughout the country, the focus of Sea Isle City’s National Night Out is to increase awareness for important police programs, such as drug prevention, avoiding juvenile alcohol use, and other anti-crime efforts. 

Sea Isle’s National Night Out will feature complementary snacks and other giveaways, face painters, an inflatable obstacle course, games, balloon artists, live music and other family fun. There will also be a dunk tank, which will raise funds for Mayor Desiderio’s 2015 Holiday Toy and Food Drive.  

The event will also feature a series of interactive booths, manned by representatives from local first responder organizations, including Sea Isle City’s Fire Department, Ambulance Corps and Beach Patrol, as well as Cape May County’s Sheriff’s Office, Prosecutor’s Office and S.W.A.T. Team. At the S.I.C. Police Department booth, officers will allow participants to try on special goggles that show how severely alcohol impairs basic functions. Additionally, representatives from the United States Secret Service will offer free Safety I.D. kits for children, which will include photographs and fingerprints for parents to keep on file. 

Afterwards, families can enjoy a free showing of the hit movie Planes: Fire and Rescue, which will begin at dusk at Excursion Park.

Wildwood

Held at Fox Park (Ocean Avenue between Burk and Montgomery Avenues) in Wildwood from 5:30-8:30 p.m. A yearly event that offers an ideal opportunity to build neighborhood unity and strengthen police-community partnerships in a continuing effort to build a better city and safer America. Wildwood Crest
Tuesday, Aug. 4th at 5:30 p.m.
Where: Centennial Park, Fern Road and Ocean Avenue, Wildwood Crest
The Borough of Wildwood Crest Police Department will host a fun-filled evening of free activities for the entire family on Tuesday, Aug. 4 as part of the National Night Out campaign. The event will be held at Centennial Park, located at Fern Road and Ocean Avenue, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Wildwood Crest National Night Out festivities will include DJ entertainment, food, games, prizes, giveaways and more for the entire family. Moon bounces, a face painter and a dunk tank will be included in the fun.
Representatives from the Wildwood Crest Police Department, Fire Department, Ambulance Corps, Beach Patrol and Recreation Department, as well as a handful of Cape May County agencies, will all partake in the event. Emergency vehicles from a variety of departments from both Wildwood Crest and Cape May County will line the Centennial Park area. The Cape May County SWAT truck, the Cape May County Sheriff K-9 Unit and the Cape May County Family Success Center will be included.
