Avalon Historical Society Photo Contest Announces Winners

2018 Best in Show - Osprey Carrying Striper

AVALON – The Avalon Historical Society held their 15th Annual Photography Contest the month of May at the History Center, 215-39th Street. Close to 100 photographs were submitted by 22 participants. The photographs were judged June 7 by Al Campbell, editor of the Cape May County Herald, Len Morgan and photographer Cal Sampson.
Rose Marie Chew, chair of the event, announced the winners of the different categories:
Avalon – first: “May the Fourth be with you” by Penny Bloom; second: “Sunrise at the Avalon Pier” by Barbara Herr; third: “Reflections at Yale Harbor” by Leslie Branda.
Nature – first: “Osprey carrying striper: by John Kauterman; second: “Overturned horseshoe crab” by Judi Rogers; third: “Down on the farm” by Susan L. Heaton.
Scenic – first: “Rippled beach at 19th street” by Judi Rogers; second: “Winter fishing” by Maria Deissroth; third: “The reflection” by Susan L. Heaton.
Portrait & Personality – first: “Frog and reflection” by Barbara Herr; second: “Man praying in Ponta Delgada” by Mary Flounders; third: “The bond” by Deana Sasdelli.
The Best in Show went to John Kauterman with his “Osprey carrying striper” entry.
Chew thanked all the participants who submitted their entries. The photography pictures will remain exhibited through June.
