Autumn Lake Healthcare Hosts Chili Cook-Off

Contestants Jennifer Hess

By Press Release

OCEAN VIEW – The Annual Chili Cook-Off was held at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Oceanview.  Residents, families, staff and guests sampled delicious entries cooked by staff and chose “The People’s Choice” award for best chili of the contest. A local “Celebrity Panel” used official chili judging criteria to award three other prizes.
Residents look forward to the friendly competition each year.  “Oh this is fun!  I love tasting what everyone made.  This is real chili!” said resident Toni Crispi.   Recipes included traditional beef chili and some unique ingredients such as turkey, sausage, bacon, beer, brown sugar and a variety of different beans.   “Woo, this one is good!” According to resident Carmella Newkirk, Stephanie Roloff’s spicy turkey chili definitely earned the title of “Sexiest Chili” in the competition.  This category recognizes the most unique use of ingredients.
The Best Chili in Cape May County & The People’s Choice Awards both went to Jennifer Hess, who donated her winnings to Resident Council’s  activities programs.  Hess said her secret was bacon and dry roasting the seasonings into the meats.  Stephanie Roloff is the proud winner of “The Sexiest Chili” for her turkey creation which was deliciously hot and spicy!  Tina Caruso won Best “Where’s the Beef” Chili for her tasty Turkey Chili.
