The Scales and Tails 4-H Club is Cape May County 4-H’s Herpetology Club.  Our club started in the fall of 2013 and is the only herpetology club for kids in Cape May County.  Our members study and interact with reptiles and amphibians at meetings and on field trips.

Our members are very active in the community and one, Rainbow McAtee, has won several awards for her volunteering. This year our club has participated in Behind the Scenes at the Cape May County Zoo Reptile House learning about the habitats, care and feeding of the various animals. We also went on the Frog Hike at Cape May Point State Park seeing several varieties of frogs while on the hike and learning many interesting things about the local reptile and amphibian life.

Club members also participated in several community service projects such as making giving bags and sandwiches with Cape Hope, Holly Shores Haunted Hayride which benefits the Oncology Center at the hospital, the Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze held last October which benefits local 4-H Programs, Community Clean-ups in Spring and Fall and Sock-It to the Homeless which benefitted the homeless in the area as well as those people and families who have suffered financial reverses in the economy.

Our meetings are held on the first and third Friday of the month at 7 p.m., from the week after school starts in September until June, at the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center.  Membership is open to kids from Kindergarten to one year out of high school. So if you are Silly about Snakes, Frantic about Frogs and just Love Lizards then we are the club for you.  Come join us!
