TRENTON -- June 10, Governor Chris Christie signed the following Executive Order:

Executive Order No. 207 - Ordering all State buildings to fly flags at half-staff on Sat., June 11, 2016, in recognition of the life and in mourning of the passing of U.S. Army Private Tysheena Lynette James.

Private Tysheena James of Jersey City, enlisted in the United States Army in 2015. She served honorably in the United States Army in the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.

On June 2, 2016, as a result of a training accident at Fort Hood, where she deployed as a motor transport operator, Private James tragically lost her life, along with eight other fellow soldiers. Private James was a loving daughter and granddaughter, who will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and fellow soldiers. Her awards include the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. She is to be laid to rest on June 11.

“New Jersey is deeply saddened by the loss of such a promising, patriotic and selfless young soldier,” Governor Christie said. “Private James and her service to our country deserves honor and remembrance across the state, as we offer our thoughts and prayers to her family, friends and military brothers and sisters who miss her dearly. The tremendous sacrifices of Tysheena and all those who put their lives on the line for our country and freedom must never be taken for granted.”
