July 6-10

Whatever Floats Your Boat

There are all kinds of boats for all kinds of activities. Some are on top of the water, some underneath. Some go fast and some go slow. Some are for fishing and some are for catching. Our Salt Panne Regatta will have “whatever floats your boat”.

Bring your creative ideas; this week we’ll be working on our project for the 4H Fair.

Ages 5-13 field trip to Cape May Coast Guard Base and Harborview Park.

July 13-17

Nature I Spy

Scientists use all kinds of equipment like scopes, binoculars, and magnifiers to “spy” on nature’s comings and goings. Get your “detective eyes” working and join us this week tracking wildlife’s wild life.

Ages 5-13 field trip to Estell Manor Nature Center, Atlantic County Park.

July 20-24

Forces of Nature

Sun, wind, tides, and weather hold many possibilities for observing nature, harnessing energy, and enjoying the wondrous world we live in. This week we’ll cook with the sun, slide with the tide, and fly on the breeze as we experiment with the Forces of Nature.

Ages 5-13 field trip to ACUA Wind Farm.

July 27-31

Crustacean Nation

What if crabs, shrimps, and lobsters ruled the world? (They think they already do!) We’ll “get the pinch” on these crusty cousins as we examine them from top to bottom!!

Ages 5-13 field trip to Rutgers Aquaculture Center and Lobster House Dock Tour.

August 3-7

On the Wing with Bugs, Birds, and Bats

They fly high through the sky with the greatest of ease, doing turns, flips and dives on the slightest of breeze. Whew! What a wonder! Get ready for fun gliding through this week.

Ages 5-13 field trip to Cape May Point State Park.

August 10-14

Marine Mammal Soundings: Stories From the Sea

Imagine yourself long ago, far out in the ocean and deep into the night when you hear a low    rolling moan and a soft swoosh! Surely it must be a sea monster! Or a mermaid?? Marine mammals have long been a part of many sea yarns and ocean myths. Through examining sounds and working with marine arts and storytelling we’ll explore whales, dolphins, and other marine mammals.

Ages 5-13 field trip to Cape May Whale Watch and Research Center and Douglas Beach.

August 17-21

Forests, Trees, Leaves, and Seeds

What is a forest for? Where can you build a tree? In a tree factory? How do seeds move from one place to another so far away? Take a deep breath and leave it to the leaves to help us answer these rooted questions and more!

Ages 5-13 field trip to Belleplain State Forest.

August 24-26

Explore the Shore: Have to Have a Habitat

The shore is more than just beach and boardwalks. It’s full of habitats of every shape and kind, for every plant and animal, to eat and drink and hide. We’ll be looking at the shore in a whole new way while we find out “what’s in Your habitat”, too!

**Extra This Week! Wednesday, August 26 is Family Night at the Beach 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Come back to the beach on Wednesday evening to watch the moon rise and hunt for ghost crabs along the beach tonight. Meet at Stone Harbor Point. Bring a flashlight or headlamp – but don’t turn them on!!**
