ERMA -- Two victims were airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Trauma Division following a three-vehicle crash on Fulling Mill Road around 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Erma and Villas Fire departments worked for 15 minutes to free the two victims who were trapped in their vehicle.

Lower Township Emergency medical Services and Medic 9 requested two medevac helicopters to fly the injured.

The road way was shut down for about 30 minutes by the Cape May County Fire Police as crews worked to clear the wreckage.

I have lived one block from Fulling Mill Road for 24 years. Over those years, there have been at least 3 deaths from cars hitting the tree on the corner of Jennings Ave and Fulling Mill. People come sling shotting out of that curve and don't recover b/c they are going too fast, or are impaired. Should take a look at that tree. It bears the marks from these accidents and is very old. I am pretty sure that tree is going to win a vehicle vs tree every time. In the warmer months when the windows are open I have heard screeching brakes and obvious metal on metal, and then the sirens start. This has happened so many times I could not even estimate.
Accidents are so very common on this road. They redirect traffic back around towards Bayshore Rd every time, and then we have a parade of fast moving vehicles running down our residential street. We have lots of small children playing on our neighborhood streets here that are usually safe, unless there is an accident on Fulling Mill Road. I live on a corner, so I get them coming down the block and then turning the corner. There is a stop sign there, which is generally ignored. I have had a problem with people actually just cutting through my yard to avoid the stop sign! That is not only when there is re directed traffic either. You would think that when this type of situation happens that the Police would have at least an officer making sure these people are NOT speeding on our residential street. They just direct them where to go and then b/c of the detour I suppose they are now in that much more of a hurry. It's bound to happen that one of these times, one of these people that are in such a hurry due to the detour will be cooling their heels in jail for vehicular manslaughter b/c they got detoured from Fulling Mill road due to an accident. and then hit a child on the road they are told to take and think the speed limit is still 50 MPH!

Mon, 10/06/2008 - 7:28am

Why aren't you telling your politicians in your respective towns that you need more cops to patrol those roads? You can't patrol with no one moron!

Sun, 10/05/2008 - 11:34pm

To all the people that just want to complain about something, just because the headline says three cars it could be true. If you read it it says three cars and two injuries. I responded to that incident and i give the cops and emts and the fellow firefighters that were there with myself alot of credit. They did their job like they were suppose to, so to everyone that thinks they can do better put your time in to one of those organizations and then put negative comments on here.

Sun, 10/05/2008 - 12:42pm

10/3 @ 6am yes "3" cars two people. also just for the rest of you fulling mill rd. is a county road. if the speed limit is changed it is the county who must decide not LTPD.

Fri, 10/03/2008 - 10:55am

The speed on Fulling Mill Rd. should be lowered to no more then 30 mph in some places. Lower and Middle Twp. Police Depts. need to patrol it more often. If the pd's did there job then every other car on this road would be stopped for breaking the law, and maybe the road would be safer. I live on this road and have seen many accidents and some very near accidents. People are always passing in the no passing zone, (Middle side near the curve before and after the park), they ride so close to the car in front of them that I don't know how there haven't been more accidents. People are always racing on this road, and the people on motorcycles are doing wheelies.

Fri, 10/03/2008 - 6:00am

UMMMMMMMM The headline says "3"!!

Thu, 10/02/2008 - 4:23pm

Kudos to the PD, and EMS/FD volunteers who responded - Thank you! Details of this story aside and just as a general observation - Assuming that those drivers who continue to think they are the only ones on the road and the road belongs to them will continue their reckless ways (speeding, inattentiveness, aggressive), could LTPD take a fresh look at getting the 50mph lowered to 40mph? FM Rd. is so dark and winding 50mph has always seemed a touch much. Even if the other car is speeding, at least the one getting hit is going 10mph less. Oh yes, and the chance of getting a light at the corner of 47 & FM Rd is...? Way too many accidents for such a small, less populated county than many others in our state. Bad for everyone - the victims, their families, and the emergency services personnel who roll up on the scene. So much vehiclular tragedy is avoidable by simply obeying the law. Our prays are with all involved.

Wed, 10/01/2008 - 5:56pm

Does anyone have any word on how many cars that were involved

$11/hour and for this, look at the committment and loyalty you get! This Twp should be ashamed of themselves asking these Officers to respond to such calls with little or no chance for them to advance . Obviously they are loyal to their community but they should go elsewhere for a position where they will be valued... I hear the State Park Police is recruiting good, loyal officers.
Thank You Officer Kennedy...many of us apprciate you!

Fri, 10/03/2008 - 12:05pm

Just think....... after November, and January 1st, we can all call Mike Beck and the Lower Township Taxpayers Association to come handle those types of calls. Under Beck and Layre, their plan is to cut between 8 and 10 cops through attrition, "not rehiring for any officers retiring." And between 8 and 10 of them will be retiring in the next three years. Officer Kennedy is a Class Two Officer who gets paid eleven dollars an hour and he risked his life to go into a sinking truck to rescue dogs. Three things are wrong here;
1) Last week Officer Iames, another Class two Officer went into the Bay to lock up a wanted Felon. These class two officers are getting paid too little to do what Lower Township excepts of them. In Cape May, Class Two Officers only write parking tickets....day-in, day-out!
2) Losing Between 8 and 10 cops to attrition is going to allow an element into this town that will take decades to get out!! It's like a pressure cooker. Turn up the heat and the top blows off!!
3) Allowing Beck and Layre to get into office is like letting the wolves back in. Mike Beck does not care about the Lower Township People. He has an agenda because he is jealous of The Lower Township Police department. Beck and Starner are CLEARLY the reason our taxes are so high today. They failed to put away for a rainy day years ago when in office and choose not to pay into the New Jersey Pension fund when they were warned the bill would come in soon. Now it has come in, and our present council is doing what it can to pay off the bill. Now Beck wants to ride back into town on his White Stallion and slay the wrongdoers!!

MIKE BECK WAS THE ORIGINAL WRONGDOER AND LAYRE'S RECORD IS ALMOST AS BAD AS IT HIS, WITH WHAT HE DID TO WEST CAPE MAY. THOSE PEOPLE SOUTH OF US ARE GLAD WE HAVE HIM NOW!!

Fri, 10/03/2008 - 10:08am

***, does anybody in south jersey NOT drink and drive....*** people are such losers down here

Thu, 10/02/2008 - 11:49am

These Lower Township Cops just cant stay out of the water.....

Nice Job Officer Kennedy !!!!!

Thu, 10/02/2008 - 11:35am

You stupid drunk drivers.. You get yourself out and leave your dogs??? What is that all about. You should of freed the dogs and you should of drowned.

Wed, 10/01/2008 - 8:26pm

BUT NO CRUELTY TO ANIMAL CHARGES ? NO ENDANGERING CHARGES ? FOR THE OFFICER GOING IN FOR THE DOGS HE COULD OF BEEN HURT, BIT , OR DROWNED HIMSELF ! GREAT JOB OFFICER KENNEDY!

To 9-28... The Tiers are put in place to protect the dignity and reputation of the offender. Most tier ones are very minor offenses that should not put the offender in reputable danger. For example, a neighbor of mine is a tier one sex offender. This offense was given to him after he shoved down a 12 year old girl who was severely beating his 10 year old daughter. However, he was charged as a sexual offender. But I am thankful his name is not on any lists because he is a good father and he is very good around my children and they love him like a father. The tier two and three offenders are the ones who should receive a bad rap from people.

Tue, 09/30/2008 - 10:51am

I was recently informed by one of my neighbors that a sex offender (C*** B***) moved to West Pacific Ave. in the Villas. None of us were notified that he was going to be living nearby and we all have children in VERY close proximity.

Sun, 09/28/2008 - 1:09am

Your right about the database not being up to date. But, still only the Tier II and Tier III offenders are on the website. There are SEVERAL Tier I offenders in Cape May County who are not on the website AND are still allowed to be around children.

Sat, 09/27/2008 - 8:56pm

and www.familywatchdog.com
are good reference points to keep tabs on these nieanderthals

Thu, 09/25/2008 - 5:58pm

Well than thank god Lower Township police are doing something to keep the areas and children of our County safe!

Thu, 09/25/2008 - 12:32pm

I agree! Who will be held accountable when these scumbags do something. I also have kids and like to be informed.

Thu, 09/25/2008 - 11:38am

I would like to know why when I checked the name of this offender and the offender and the offender caught a couple of days ago against the state Sex offenders database they are not listed. I have children and use the offender database to keep me informed of any new offenders in my area. It is disturbing to know that this database is not being kept up to date.

you people who defend this theif better save it for court ,iguess he may need some character witnesses that day .he is guilty has done it before and did it and got caught ,the trivial purses were someone elses, dont you get it stealing is wrong and i hope he gets the maximum punishment, stop comparing his crime to other crimes it doesn,t justify theft, just because you know him as a nice giuy, you are the losers, not the police or the victim he got caught deal with it........he has solen thousands from us how about you, check your stuff ,it may be gone?????

Sat, 09/27/2008 - 9:43pm

you disgust me. I can't believe you have the audacity to try to defend yourself. You should be thanking people for not posting the truths about all the terrible things you have done throughout your life . Your problem is that you never thought you would get caught and arrested for any of your pathetic, lowlife behaviors. You desire everything you get.

Sat, 09/27/2008 - 8:42pm

after reading this article i only have one thing to say. a few years back a member of my family was accused of something. the newspapers crucified him. do not believe everything you read. theres usually alot more to it or the facts are twisted around so bad ly
its unbelievable.

Sat, 09/27/2008 - 8:00pm

Denial...................Denial.........Denial..........................Who cares how long you lived in Cape May County, the rest of us honest people wish it would have been a lot less. You're just "eeking out a living" and have a family to support and to make explanations to.....................should have thought about that before you "decided" to "steal" What about the living the dealer (victim) was trying to make????? "You doth protest too much."...making it all sound too fishy to believe. Why would the LT detective lie about this case? What would be his motivation? Get real......I just hope you have your wish granted....that all of the local newspapers swiftly and boldly announce the outcome of your trial......because we all know what that's going to be....and , then, what excuses will you have? And, if the Herald printed all these lies, please come forward with your non-existent defense. Did the purses just fall to earth and land in your house? I just wish that someone would investigate all of your other sales on ebay.............just imagine what they Might find...and how much more time you might get to serve in jail.

Sat, 09/27/2008 - 11:34am

Bummer man. But seriously don't post on this that's just stupid and does you no good.

Sat, 09/27/2008 - 11:02am

You're not guilty of the crime yet they found the stolen merchandise in your house and listed under your seller id on ebay??? How stupid do you think we are??? If you didn't steal the purses, where's your receipt and how are they on your property? How dare you sit there and act like a martyr! Instead of stealing from antique dealers who are actually trying to make a part-time living in a co-op, why don't you get a second job like we all have to when times are tough? I've struggled to pay my bills each month like many in Cape May County but going through rough times is never an excuse to steal from others. What about the dealers and co-ops you steal from? They counted on money from their sales to help pay their bills! How can all these people defend this guy when they purses were found at his house and returned to the dealer? Those of us in the business all suspected you for years but never could prove it or catch you in the act. Now we know our suspicions were correct! I truly hope you get what you deserve for what you've put all the dealers you've stolen from through not to mention the reputation of the co-ops.

Sat, 09/27/2008 - 9:49am

Finally this guy gets caught. I have had many run ins with this guy ***
This guy is finally out of our lives, he has taken from so many people, poeple who are trying to make some extra cash during this bad economy. How easy it would be for all of us to go out there and steel from others, what this guy doesn't realize is the trickle down effect his actions have caused many many people in the Antique business. I am the owner of one center who evicted him because of expensive items going missing when he came in. I am delighted, as well as all the people who he *** from!! Well done to the Cape May court house police department and Well done again to the dealer who caught him. I hope he gets what is coming to him, he deserves to most sever of punishments that one can get for this crime. Now *** who is the Clown?

Fri, 09/26/2008 - 3:10pm

I can't decide what makes me laugh more. A person who sells stolen merchandise on Ebay or that he tries to plead his case on an internet message board.
***

Fri, 09/26/2008 - 11:28am

This stinkin' criminal didn't think that he would get caught and I am thrilled that he did. He Iis a stupid criminal at that. Was this his first time" Has he done this before and gotten away with it? He has voilated another person which is unacceptable. Is he a nurse? Around ill people who could be taken advantage of? Police only arrest suspects with probable cause so this guy has to face facts. One must pay for a crime. In ancient times of an eye for an eye he would have his hand CUT OFF!! I applaud the police for their investigation and arrest and applaud the paper for printing it.

Thu, 09/25/2008 - 6:46pm

ERMA — A Court House man was arrested by Lower Township police on Monday, Sept. 22, charged with theft in connection with two 1920 purses.

Thats a quote dim wit from the press release. And if he wasnt arrested why is he even trying to explain his innocence. He has expressed his innocence and did not explain anything except to wait for the trial. I will, with baited tounge and would love to see your squirming face. Obviously you are one who he finally told that he was arrested and you believe him. Cops dont charge people because they have no probable cause and need a press release. I'm gonna guess here and say, mom your sons a crook and got caught. Deal with it and tell him to stop trying to defend himself here and provide no information to prove his innocense. And finally if no one cares why did you take the time to write that no one cares. Yes, there is no pitty here for the crooks unless your a crook themself or the mother of one !!! Please smile wide for the mug shot ;^)

Wed, 09/24/2008 - 5:59pm

Who are you to sit here and pick this man apart, he did not steal anything he was not arrested and what do you care?? all you know is the cops brief story which does not explain anything and why should MR GARRETT have to explain anything to you. Are you someone important? should he care what you think NO!!! Get A LIFE and stop sharing your opinions no one cares

Wed, 09/24/2008 - 10:30am

So how much time does Mr. Garrett need to tell his family ? Two days, two weeks, two months possibly.... I am sure he had plenty of time to tell but chose not too. And as for you Mr. Garrett, you have told us how the article is so wrong but dont seem to want to set us straight. How much time will you need for this ? 2 Days, 2 weeks .............you took the time to write two articles and said nothing to prove your innocense. We are waiting or have you not been able to come up with the perfect lie, ooops ah, defense. Till then I consider you guilty or you wouldnt have been charged. Did they fall from the sky into your backyard.....no matter what it still wasnt yours to sell and if you bought them from someone else i am sure they would have been charged also... As you can see, there is no pity here !!

Wed, 09/24/2008 - 10:20am

here's the process:
cops get a call,
investigate,
make an arrest,
produce a press release (if they so choose, they don't have to),
send it to the papers,
papers print it (usually the Herald first),
your beef shouldn't be with the paper,
it should be with the police who chose to make your arrest news.

Wed, 09/24/2008 - 8:04am

seriously this town can be such a joke of all the drug busts and drunk driving and everything else this poor man has a family and your calling him a thief he has kids in high school, elementary school give the man a break!! what the hell ever happened to innocent until proven guilty well not in COHO all we do is run our mouths and do faulty advertising apparently i even heard this on 100.7 don't you think it would be fare for mr garrett to tell his family first that all this is happening instead of them hearing it on the radio this town is way to small ....and as for the herald i think its a lame paper all people do is complain in the spout offs and run there mouths t

Wed, 09/24/2008 - 7:48am

AWWW Are we suppose to feel sorry for you???? The shop owner called the police, you got caught, oh Well. And I would not talk too much smack on the cop who locked you up!
It's not his fault you committed The Fubar of the Week! What a ***! We need to send your story to Jay Leno !!

Tue, 09/23/2008 - 8:49pm

I would like to ask the herald a very simple question- why do you have to print an article such as this one by only going on the word of one policeman ? do you ever contact the person who is being accused of these accusations ? does that not make sense ? i would think that any paper in this day and age would only want to print the most accurate information that is available to them. and you have decided to simply go on one so called detectives word that this info is correct and is newsworthy. i just happen to know for a fact that the info you have printed does not contain many facts-from the day of arrest-to the - well, i am not going into any details here-as this is not the place for that. the correct place for that would be the courtroom-where one gets to prove his innocence. so that all may know the truth. you may be asking how would i know that this info is incorrect ? very simple-i am the accused and i am very confused as to why a small town local paper would want to print a story like this without either talking to me or waiting for the outcome of the courts findings. i am and have been in cape may county since my birth 48 years ago-and i have worked my whole life here-mostly in cape may court house ! i am not asking for anything. i just wish that the herald would not print this kind of article without having all the correct info first. i am the first one to admit that my life has been a mess over the last 5 years and it is not getting any easier-i am finding it almost impossible to maintain a home on one miniscule salary-even on two incomes-it was extremely difficult. now here i find myself being falsely accused of something i have not done and am scared to death that i can keep my job and keep working until my innocence has been proven.so-i only ask that the herald will print an article as fast as they printed this one when all is said and done ! joseph w garrett cape may court house nj

(ED. NOTE: When police report any arrest and issue a release, it is published without consulting the person arrested. If the person desires, they may write a Letter to the Editor for publication.)

Tue, 09/23/2008 - 8:02pm

well nothing like having the full facts prior to listing a story-dont you think it would be appropiate to contact mr garrett to ask him what his side of the story is before you print such an article ? Is it really necessary to print this kind of accusation before all is said and done in a court of law ? is it really fair to simply just take a detectives word that this is what happened ? it just so happens that i know for a fact that this info is wrong and the events that you have listed did not take place as printed. how do i know ? simple-i am the accused and i will tell you that since this local paper has decided to print this false information regarding a local person who grew up in this county and is still here working and living and just barely getting by-well i hope to change all of that - thanks to this article. i can only hope that after the court hearings are over-that this paper will print the courts decision just as fast as this article was printed and released. thank you joseph w garrett cape may court house

(ED. NOTE: When the defense attorney informs the Herald of the case's outcome in court, a story will be printed.)
