We need the Sheriff to start undertaking supplementing local law enforcement as they do in Atlantic County, as well as other states.
Also, he needs to stop hiring all of his buddies and cut the whole horsing around(pun intended) at the County Zoo.
He's done a lot, I will give him that, but there's still a lot of room for improvement, as well as giving equal opportunities for all residents of the county for Sheriff's officer positions...not just his friends.

Not only do these good people assist the inamates, they impact all the people of Cape May County especially the families of those in the jail.
Programs assist the inmates to make good use of their time and then return to our community poised to be all they can be.
Nice job all.

COURT HOUSE -- Wildwood police Sgt. David Romeo was found guilty Monday morning by a jury; the charges stemmed from an incident in which he kicked two handcuffed suspects on the ground, the Press of Atlantic City reports.
Romeo will be sentenced April 16 on a second-degree charge of official misconduct. Romeo, 39, remains free on bail until his sentence date. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.

Nobody is defending any bad guys or their actions. Romeo was wrong and that is the bottom line........cause Stone Cold said so! Lol! Seriously though, he was 100% wrong and it was total police brutality! Even if they were Ninjas, I don't think they could have picked up the mystery knife with their teeth or feet and threw it at the Officers. Such a BS story it was sad to hear from another Offficer.

Because official misconduct is a much more serious charge than just assault and carries much heavier penalties. Rather than go to trial for a multitude of charges they get merged and the most serious is represented.
I love how after this it is then paralleled into "most" or "all" cops are crooked and abuse authority blah blah blah. That's not even remotely true, THE PROBLEM is that all the good officers do rarely gets any press and if they do it is on the last page. An errant cop does wrong and its headline and all that is focused on.
"Corrupt" doesn't mean you got yelled at or were written a ticket you deserve. And sometimes cops have to use force, it may not look pretty to outsiders like us, but it's necessary(and reasonable) and not wrong. Sometimes the bad guys fight. I'm not comparing that to Romeo's case, but a lot of people don't even realize what's happening and begin their brutality chants.
Before you defend the bad guys remember they'd harm you just as easily as they would a cop.

It seems some people have forgotten a little thing called civil rights, criminal or not we still have rights one of them being not being kicked in the head while being arrested, our police have seem to have forgotten they are here to protect and serve,i have seen many, many instances where the police are abusing the power of their job,2 wrongs dont make a right, for those of you who are praising this abuse how would you feel if it was your child or family member being kicked in the head wrong is wrong and abuse is abuse

Hey taxandspend, why does it sound like you are being a smart @$$!? You can clearly see from my posts that I think it was wrong what this jerk Romeo did to those scumbag criminals. I usually never side with the scumbags but clearly they did not deserve this! My point is, it's not fair that when a uniformed Officer gets assaulted, the offender gets a slap on the wrist. What kind of message is that sending!? Do you want people thinking that it's ok to hit a cop because they will only get a small fine? That's what it's coming to! I feel that it should be automatic jail time if someone strikes a uniformed Officer! If that were the case, I bet it would happen a lot less. Just as I feel that a DWI first offense should require jail time but that's a whole other issue. What's even worse for Wildwood, these criminals are now going to file lawsuits against the PD and get paid by the taxpayers whose cars they were stealing from. Oh the irony!

Thank you Andrew and Scorpion. What's even worse.....I heard when this all came out, he was told if he resigned, he would still collect part of his pension but would never be able to work as an Officer in NJ again. He decided that he would fight it and lost. I don't believe that the guy deserves jail time either because as I said before, you can assault a Cop in NJ without getting jail time. Now I know that there will be people who say,"well Cops should know better"! BS.......people should know better! You know exactly what you are doing when you assault a uniformed Officer too! Just as Romeo knew what he was doing that night! What's fair is fair! I deal with situations that enrage me all the time. Juveniles that disrespect any type of authority, habitual criminals, habitual drug addicts, etc. Many times I'd like to smack the snot out of some of these scumbags! It NEVER crossed my mind to kick or punch someone who was cuffed! Never!!! Romeo is a coward. All the good that he has done in his career went out the door and this is what he will be remembered for. Pity...Pity...Pity.

Hey Vader, I think you got real guts admitting a blue brother is actually in the wrong. So many times all you hear is the brothers sticking up for each other no matter what the circumstance. My internal respect-o meter topped up when I read your original comment.
This guy is a disgrace to his badge and is the reason so many people have little to no respect for police officers in general. Why kick them in the head when they are down on the ground and handcuffed? He's a lying POS and I'm glad the jury saw right though him. He deserves whatever he gets.

I am in the same vicinity as you, Vader, however I truly think the punishment seems excessive. (Assuming he gets time). Can him, that should be enough. Being out of work and the reality check of losing his soap box would be more then enough. Now to stand on my soap box, for the most part the cops in NW, WW, WC, etc. do a great job. The summer cops, straight out of college are an issue. When i was at school, i had an opportunity to do a summer in NW, however i declined per it not worth the aggravation. (the drunks along are not worth it) A lot of these guys out of college or on break from college, are more or less glorified bouncers. I've seen enough of "subduing" unruly visitors to know some people do not have the patience to hack it. And that is just on Irish Weekend. For Mr. Romeo's sake i hope he avoids jail. After all, i am sure there are people who have done worse and are still on the streets. i.e. drug dealers, dead beat dads, etc.

Sue, I guess you are a friend or family member of this little wheezle Romeo who had to kick two handcuffed men when they were down on their stomach! Real tough guy! Believe me, I've been in situations where I wanted to do what dip$hit did but my training and patience prevailed. I have made many mistakes in my career, they just didn't require me being put in jail. You are a jack@$$! This guy purposely kicks two men, who are CLEARLY NO THREAT, and you rip on me for bashing him!?!?! This is the type of officer you want showing up!? You are as foolish as this UNPROFESSIONAL EX-OFFICER! Get a clue, this is old school policing that just is not tolerated anymore. Does anyone else hear think I am wrong for bashing this POS Ex-Officer!?
On another note, I don't know how much time he deserves as I am not a Judge. I do know that when we lock up someone for assault on a Police Officer, they get a slap on the wrist. Just saying.

ur right marmora. It shouldve been assault. Then it woulda been a two hundred dollar fine and a disorderly persons offense. instead they brought the official misconduct charge. Thats the 2nd degree. So he woulda been better with the assault. And as for vader. You are obviously one of those cops that never made a mistake. A pretty boy that has never had to get down and fight with someone. Wonder where you work. I wholly admit he is guilty of being stupid and simple assault. misconduct??? Let me ask everyone what they want to do if they caught these scumbags rummaging through your car. You know what. When I call the police in that circumstance, I want a guy like Romeo showing up. Maybe they won't do it again

By the time he kicked both of these guys in the head, he could've kicked the knife out of harms way. This Ex-Officer is a POS and his actions were uncalled for. No doubt about it.......GUILTY!

Guilty. Regardless of the circumstances, the subjects were in handcuffs at the time. Even if there had been a knife between them the chances of them getting the knife in their hands and getting up to injure an officer is slim. Even regardless of that, there was no need to kick the guy in the head. Kicking a guy in the head as a way to distract them isn't smart.
Why wasn't Romeo charged with assault?

So because someones black doesn't give anyone the right to accuse him Of being in a gang, so all of you need to stop stereotyping people because of their race, didn't any of you read why he was arrested, " receiving stolen property " a crime he didn't commit, and since you all think you really know him, did you know he took the blame for his friends? i didn't think so, not any of you have the right to say anything about this man.no ones perfect. COURT HOUSE — A former North Wildwood condo association president Thursday, March 4 admitted embezzling over $50,000 from the group’s coffers, which she had been trusted to protect.
Anne Marie Kelly, 52, of Gilbertsville, Pa. and formerly of Anglesea’s Lodge Condominiums, waived indictment and pleaded guilty to the accusation of third-degree theft for writing checks from the association’s bank account and using the funds for her own benefit without the knowledge of the other condo trustees. The thefts took place during her presidency from January 2006 through June 2007.

This comment is in response to STATETHEFACTS' comment. I agree with your statement, "This is a very unfortunate situation!" Yes, it is unfortunate for all the members of the Lodge Community - not unfortunate for Anne Kelly. There is no excuse for her behavior.
I would suggest you obtain a copy of the transcripts. You will find that she "pleaded guilty to the accusation of third-degree theft for writing checks from the association’s bank account and using the funds for her own benefit without the knowledge of the other condo trustees." Joe Hart does not print anything that is not the official word from the prosecutor's office.
If you are a member of the Lodge Community, I suggest you exercise your right to examine the financial records. And, I don't mean generated reports. It took a long time for me to believe that there was embezzlement taking place. When I saw with my own eyes, I felt like I was punched in the stomach. I can STATETHEFACTS because I saw the facts.
Also, for anyone who thinks this was a witch hunt, you should think again. Open your eyes and thank your new board members for doing a commendable job on getting our finances back on track. They deserve the highest of accolades. Now, let's move on. It's over...justice has been served...Next.

Who would be happy to know that the person you put your trust in stole from you? The insurance company and prosecutor believed the charges and the defendant admitted it in court. How can someone's "accomplishments" justify this?

I'm sure this woman did very many good things for her community, but, I doubt very much that the judicial system would go out of their way to prosecute this woman if they didn't believe she did something wrong. According to this report the theft started over 4 years ago. It's not as if they acted on impulse and started throwing around accusations, it seems there was a thorough investigation of the facts. By the way I do not believe anyone other than the defendant spoke in court yesterday, so I don't know who may have denied her access to the receipts mentioned by statethefacts. And while she did not plead guilty she did tell the judge that she knew what she did was wrong and that she did it on her own free will. I know many people in this community and I don't believe any of them are cheering.

Wildwood is Camden with Condos - what on earth are you talking about? Your comments have absolutely nothing to do with the subject matter of the article. This has nothing to do with real estate, poorly built or otherwise, Ponzi schemes, realtors, mortgage brokers or rising taxes. Correct me if I am wrong but what I read is someone was accused of using Condo Association funds for personal purposes and in order to avoid prosecution is paying back the money she is accused of taking. I'm pretty sure that sums it up. If you're going to whine about those other topics please do so when it's relevant.

It is my understanding that this was an accusation factual hearing. The defendant acknowledged the accusations against her and the fact that she understood the accusations. She did not plead guilty and she was not convicted of a crime. She waived a trial and made a plea agreement with the prosecutors office. The facts of the plea agreement state that she would pay restitution. Once restitution is paid, the prosecutor,s office would drop the charges and there would be no record of an arrest. Making a plea agreement is a very difficult decision. Due to the fact that the parties who filed the complaint deny having any records of financial transactions makes it very difficult for the defendant to go through a trial. If the defendant could not get copies of the receipts, then she would be found guilty and sent to prison. Unfortunately this is the only choice that the defendant had. The people who are cheering over a victory in this case really need to search their souls and be able to live with the actions they took. Anne is a very caring person who did a lot for the Lodge Community. Those who know her are aware of her accomplishments. This is a very unfortunate situation!
