albano | 1 year 2 weeks ago | Comments 10

By Herald Staff

MILLVILLE -- On Sept. 27, Gov. Jon Corzine signed Assembly bill 3372 into law. That bill requires all vehicles owned by a New Jersey resident to be registered within 60 days.

Fines range from $250-$500 dollars with possible impoundment of the vehicle. Half of the fines would be distributed to the town and one half would be distributed to the county in which the violator was caught.

I am glad to see that they are finally addressing some of the problem, but I still think when a New Jersey police Officer stops an out of state car that they should be able to verify Insurance, Registration and Drivers licence. I have seen plenty of vehicles stop around my house with Pa. plate or Virgina plates that the police have let them go. You could also hear once in a while, the officer with them (an immigrant) "that you know this so call licences that you are buying over Pa. are no good". I also seen in our town court the Jugde fine someone for not having a licence, pay his fine, walk right past a police officer, and into one of those white van a drive away. Polce don't do anything. My next door neighbor has been here 6 years but because he owns a house in Pa. his car can be plated there. Township police say can't do anything. WHY? He lives here, sleeps here. His car should be tag here right???? I hope this Law will help, and who is appose to enforce it, township or state police?

ON AT LEAST 3 OCCASSIONS I HAVE SAT IN COURT AND HEARD THE JUDGES ASK THESE ILLEGALS IF THEY EVER HAD A LICENCE IN ANOTHER STAT ETC. (SINCE THEY WERE DRIVING WITHOUT A LICENCE) JUST SO THEY COULD LOWER THE CHARGES. ALSO, ON ANOTHER OCCASSION, THEY DROPPED DRIVING WITHOUT INSURANCE CHARGES TO SOME LOWER CHARGE!! OUR COURTS HAVE TO ENFORCE THE RULES WHEN VIOLATORS ARE CAUGHT.
ON ALL OF THESE OCCASIONS, THEY WERE IMMIGRANTS (USUALLY HAVING A TRANSLATOR) IF NOT ILLEGAL.
WAKE UP PEOPLE-MAYBE THEN THESE PEOPLE WILL THINK TWICE BEFORE DOING IT AGAIN!!

the only thing i will add is most ilegal are going out state taking another drivel icense and registering your car using most times someone they know living there or faking direction , this way they still living and working new jersey but driving with plates from another state . If anyone want see by himself pay attention when going any area where minorty are present you see cars with plates numbers from another state. Example go to Newark ,Elizabeth Patterson Riverside long branch NJ , and many towns thru stata , solution should all states have same policies to require more id prove and police local town randon could look all tags from other states and follow up these people.

Why is it always the blame of illegal immigrannts . Do you know how many U . S citizens drive around with fake tags? Maybe if our country would help these illegals get a visa. they wouldnt have to sneak in our country. Our system is so corrupt it isnt even funny.

I hope the old laws apply to unregistered cars kept in a garage. I seriously doubt people will be insuring and registering their project cars.

illegal immigrants don't drive new jersey cars they drive out of state cars so what good is the bill

Maybe this will curtail the number of NJ residents who register and insure their vehicles in other states. Many are probably illegal immigrants. I often see many certain states plates in central NJ, such as North Carolina, New York and Pennsylvania. North Carolina has reformed their driver license requirement to require legal status. NY has many illegal immigrants with driving privileges after a social security number verification found many thousands of mismatches. I don't know if those licences were revoked. I can't believe that registering a vehicle in NJ was not currently required. Would not the two year vehicle inspection requirement in NJ catch these violators?

THANK YOU GOVERNOR

Fri, 09/28/2007 - 7:52am

WOW finally N.J. does something to slow the invasion. I can't believe my eyes. Maybe all the letters to Corzine is making him see he's about to get kicked out of office if he doesn't stop pandering to these illegals

Very sad ! :o(

Thu, 07/19/2007 - 12:34am

Stop & Shop and it's parent company Royal Ahold are simply the worst. They are closing stores all over and are trying to get bigger and bigger to compete with walmart and don't realize that all great things implode. Even their 60,000 foot stores arent big enough anymore. They'd rob you of your front lawn and set up a cereal aisle on it if they could. Good riddance!
The more Stop & Shop's close the better.

I am very sad to hear Stop and Shop is closing. The quality of their meat and produce is excellent. While their prices were more expensive than Shop-Rite, I bought whatever was on sale. Fewer choices are never a good thing.

Thu, 07/12/2007 - 6:23pm

I am sorry to see stop and shop go, it gave a lot of people, a good job. I don't think they competed with the other markets. I thought they were very high priced. I hope someone else gives it a go. Maybe, Wal Mart will take it over to make a Super Walmart. J&J

i hated that store. A lot of the employees were rude.....good riddance! Too bad for the good hard-working employees who will now be out of work in an already low-paying, no-job market. K-mart will be next!!

Tue, 07/10/2007 - 4:02pm

900 full time and part time workers, many of them with 15 and 20 years in the grocery business are losing their jobs and medical benefits. Stop & Sop never even tried to compete in South Jersey. The had the people and finances to do the job right but never made an effort to succede in this market. What a crime. C.R.
