If this were a backdraft situation( what happens is the fire uses all the available oxygen in the structure causing it to die out and smoulder, the heat and smoke are unable to escape and then the introduction of oxygen into the atmosphere causes a very violent explosion) the police could have killed the family, themselves, not to mention the possiblity of burning down the whole complex. Even though saving the day was very brave, it was just as stupid. Did they happen to notice if the windows had smoke in them, and if so what color it is? Would they know what to do then? It is called scene size up, get a clue. When they were dispatched to an audible alam call they arrived on scene, heard a fire alarm and didnt call they fire dept until the front door was forced with a haligen bar bieng meet with smoke. Use your heads boys if things went sour you all would lose your jobs by not following protocol. a firefighter

I agree with the others now, you guys really do have issues and seem to be a bit jealous of the PD stealing your wind . Get over it fella's, since 911 tou guys want to ride on the coat tails of the fallen in NY. Aint gonna happen here but you can go apply there for a real fire fighter posistion.

I think the point 7/24 is trying to make that the police dept. should utilize the fire dept. more often. Many calls come in for smoke or fire alarms and they send the cops. And for the comment about bluelighters, doesn't lower have blue lights on their cars.339pm stop by the fire house any monday night at 7pm and use that term fire squirrel.

To the 2:26 hrs writer. You are exactly what I was refering too I do believe. The 10:06 am writer is the kind of fireman that makes you and the other responsible firefighters look bad. I have to imagine that he is young and invinceable at this time as per his comments. You need to weed these types out. I did not coin the lights and siren comments, i have heard it many many times in the past.

I can't believe the nerve of some people, you are all missing the big picture. Firefighters and Police Officers all have the same goal, to protect and save lives and property. The only difference is that firefighters are not paid. These people are selfless. They leave their homes and families whenever they are needed, not knowing if they will return. I am grateful for everything they do for our community. The people making the blue light and siren boy comments should try being one of these brave people. Maybe you know you couldn't stomach a deadbody in a car or go inside a house that is on fire, that's why you make such offensive remarks.

To thursday 1006 comment what the h##l is your problem if you were on scene you being a firemen(if you are) would of done the same exact thing. Botton line everyone is ok
To friday 1245 comment I as a firemen agree that these comments make all of us look bad I personally do not like the way you say we cannot wait to turn on the blue lights and drive like an idiot I certainally do not do I get there yes will I hurt someone else or myself doing so no way... I have seen too many times both police & firefighter & rescue driving too fast but there is a need for emergency personal and we do the best we can and that is all anyone can ask for.
Maybe this bull talk would be stopped if we were required to sign on with a name.

OMG, i cant beliee the gull of the "fireman" spouter. Listen, if the police stole your fun for the night i dought that was their intentions. The "fireman" mentality rears its ugly head at times and its very degrading to the other firefighters. The cops job is to preserve the safety or life of all of us. Not to sit around waiting for firemen to get there. I would imagine they have the concept of fires and how they act. Its people like the "fireman" spouter thats reassures us what we all hear at times and that is that they cant wait to turn their blue lights on and drive like idiots so that they can get to the big red truck to turn the red lights and sirens on. I am sorry that the police ruined your fun whiner, siren boy.

I could not agree with the poster on 7/25/08 @ 5:19AM more. Stop whining. Tell that to the parents of the small child whom Lower Township officers saved by pulling the children from a smoke filled bedroom. One of the officers was burnt pretty good. But the real injuries they all suffered was the fact that they lost one of the children and now they wear that pain in their hearts. So to the *** who thinks cops should wait outside; let the cops know where your family lives so they don't piss you off one night when they have to save your families life. They'll just wait outside!!! Get a life, shut up and stop complaining. If you want to complain so much, join that bunch of complainers with the Lower Township Taxpayers Association.

I didn't know that they are now teaching basic firefighting principles in the polce academy. I am not knocking the job that these guys do. BUT anyone who has a scanner knows how long the pd played around on scene with this call BEFORE calling the fire dept. As soon as it is determined that there is a "fire alarm" sounding, the FIRE DEPT should be notifyed. By forcing thier way into the apartment they could have killed not only themselves but all of the other occupants in that building. Granted it was only a "pot on stove" fire but if it would have involved the contents of the room I assure you that the result would have been different. When there is a fire in a "sealed" room it will reach a point where it cannot get any bigger due to the lack of oxygen. By introducing a large ammout of fresh air (opening a door) into a room that is full of smoke and combustible gasses a flashover may result. Thus seriously burning, injuring, or even killing anyone in the area. Flashovers kill fireman in full protective turnout gear all the time, let alone someone in regular clothing. People, please leave the fires, alarms, JAWS / /MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS, and other fire dept rescue calls to the fire dept. We dont spend hundreds of hours training to sit at home and watch other people put themselves in unnecessary danger. Or...... maybe we can start sending fire trucks to bank robberies and cap gun fights...................

People will talk and let them no one here knows what was going thru the mothers head and yes in a matter of seconds you can and will become disoriented. I am a fireman and have been in smoke filled enviroments it is real easy to lose you bearing the best is to drop to the floor and do not panic and the article states the mother was combative with the officers she knows how lucky she is now. Just like a person drowning they will take a rescuer down with them out of sheer panic, Remember Smoke is no joke get out !!

she probaly panicked and was scared along with disoriented due to the smoke.
last week on the gsp wasn't there a crash were the mother thought her baby was in the car? and fire & police searched along the sides of the roads. turned out baby was home with sitter or something? Panic makes people make weird decisions and actions.
as for the french fries maybe she was hungry ? or just got home from work or something. at least the son wasn't home the police did a great job usual
great job ltpd!!

TOWN BANK — Haven House, a low-income senior apartment complex on Townbank Road, constructed by Diocesan Housing Services Corporation of the Catholic Diocese of Camden, is plagued with a number of construction-related problems ranging from water leaks, broken air conditioning units to a trash compacting system that can not be used.
The complex, behind St. John-of-God Church, started accepting residents in April and celebrated its grand opening last month when Bishop Joseph Galante, of the Diocese of Camden, cut the ceremonial ribbon.

What happens when there's a REAL fire somewhere else and someone's house is burned down because the fire dept was out on a false alarm at Haven House. They should be fined for all these false alarms. Sock them with a big fine - then maybe they'll spend some money to correct the problem.

The state hasn't funded the Higbee beach Tide gate project and that has all the engineering studies and permits, nor will the state fund this Cox Hall Creek project. The money won't be allocated until the states budget crisis eases years from now. The Lwr. MUA has not been involved and hasn't allocated or planned for any public water to the area that might result in saltwater intrusion to private wells.
Why is this project even moving forward without any hopes of funding into the foreseeable future?...To use up any money already allocated to "the Cox Hall Creek study" with designing plans that are not going to be funded and implemented?
