BURLEIGH — A cloud of blue and white balloons soared aloft into the wild, blue yonder Oct. 12, released from the hands of members of The Lighthouse Church as charter members dug a ceremonial gold shovel into the ground.

Senior Pastor Rudy Sheptock raised his arms toward heaven as balloons drifted southwest and upward while the congregation sang the hymn “On Holy Ground.”

BURLEIGH — Members of the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce had the opportunity on Aug. 21 to question their U.S. Representative and state legislators at Wildwood Golf and Country Club.

Much of the discussion focused on energy, but there was also a question about the paid family leave act, and what happens to any excess money, and the status of Route 55.

Who are these groups/people that Sen. Van Drew speaks of which are making "National and Worldwide resistance to the completion of Rte. 55? I want to know exactly who are these people that they have more say in what happens in my County for our safety than the residents.
I remind everyone Cape May County, in addition to having the countries deadliest road
(Rte 47), is also "the winner" in being one of the hardest counties in the country to evacuate in a hurricane. Does anybody else see the common factor in both of these?.....It is our states failure to the people in CMC to complete the Cape May Expressway (Rte55).

Was there a vote I missed?................people's safety..NO
birds/plants/animals...YES

Who cares about piping plovers....really who cares...a plain crashed and your worried about piping plovers....wake up!

Mon, 07/28/2008 - 8:08pm

I wonder if that was the plane with the banner asking for someone's hand in marriage. I saw that plane and it was flying very high and out over the ocean. I pray for the driver.

Sun, 07/27/2008 - 9:21am

I drove by the site just as the rescue personnel were arriving, it was impressive to see the response and a good feeling to know they are there when you need them. Kudos to the EMS and Middle Township Police, they are well trained professionals and all do an incredible job, somthing most forget about that the minute they get stopped or a ticket. I wish the pilot a speedy and full recovery.

"Facial" is misspelled in the photo caption and the map location (a nice feature, BTW) is incorrect.

Sat, 07/26/2008 - 10:16pm

Piping plovers taste like chicken

Sat, 07/26/2008 - 7:29pm

PLEASE STOP flying these banner planes over the homes and neighborhoods along side of N Wildwood BLVD. I am always afraid that a plane is going to crash in my backyard. The banner planes should be flying over the BLVD and avoiding the homes> The noise of these planes all day long going over our houses is a nuisance!! I do hope that the pilot is ok.

Sat, 07/26/2008 - 7:05pm

Think about the people who own the business and how they feel. I am sure they did not want this to happen and probably care about their employees. Pray for the poor lil pilot the plovers did not suffer!!!

Sat, 07/26/2008 - 6:39pm

Please keep us updated on his condition.

Sat, 07/26/2008 - 6:23pm

Oh my God, what a shame. I saw it all happen. I was the one who called 911. The driver of the plane was awake when the response team arrived on the scene. The driver of the plane looked to have landed the plane the best he could. Thank God no other parties were injured. After about 45 min the State Police arrived with the Medic Vac in Whitsboro to airlift the driver to Cooper Trama Center at 6:30 pm

I pray the young man is ok. Any further comments or questions you can email me at gatormembers@aol.com

Sat, 07/26/2008 - 5:42pm

I really think something is up with Planes and Jersey, this is the 4 plane down since June.

I hope all goes well with the pilot.

Sat, 07/26/2008 - 5:10pm

Why don't you read the stories correctly? With Middle Township and Local Juveniles in one sentence I know these aren't the same kids. So, why don't you stop getting off to"posting comments" on any juvenile case in cape may county? Just because your stuff may have gotten vandalized or stolen or whatever doesn't mean we want the same "cry baby" opinion from you on every Juvenile article. Get a life. Deal with what happened to you and move on with your life.

Wed, 07/30/2008 - 2:59pm

Were these the same punks that broke into all the cars and robbed someone in the Crest? How can you release juvies to their parents without a monitoring device? The parents are not at home so the County gives these kids the ok to do it again...PATHETIC!!!

Tue, 07/29/2008 - 8:59am

Nothing going to happen to them. Mommy and Daddy will most likely pay the compensation and the little punks will be on the street again doing what they do. The juvenile justice system in this country is horrible. you basically have to kill someone to go to the detention center. I got a great idea. Send these little s**ts up to the Bridgeton Juvenile Detention Center for a day or two. They wont want to go back. There are kids up there 14 and 15 years old that look like 30 year old men! After a day or two of getting beat up, having their meals taken from them by the older more manly kids. That might work! Good luck with that!

Sat, 07/26/2008 - 1:10pm

I was one the victims that had to scrub the spray paint of my family's car @ 6:30 am in the blazing hot sun, that morning, there are still damages to my family car. They should really be compensated for the damages.

Sat, 07/26/2008 - 8:56am

NOW THE PROUD PARENTS CAN MARCH THESE LITTLE PUNKS TO EACH VICTIMS HOME AND THE LIL BAST**DS CAN SCRUB WALLS OR CARS TO FIX WHAT THEY DAMAGED.

Sat, 07/26/2008 - 5:42am

They should break their fingers, maybe then they would get the message that this is wrong and they shouldn’t do it

Scores of environmentalists, neighbors and citizens have packed the meeting room at Township Hall for over a year to express concerns over the proposed development.

Why don't we consider this application when the host community benefits are settled?

Fri, 05/16/2008 - 10:42am

It's always uplifting to see a mob of "concerned citizens" band together with other neighbors and hide behind the enviromental issue smoke screen. Why don't they just buy the property (neighbors and enviromental groups) and preserve it. NO - they want to tell someone who owns the property and has a legal right to do what was proposed how they should use the land.

Wed, 05/14/2008 - 1:58pm

Thank you Mr. Hart for reminding everyone to show up in support of our precious forest.

Tue, 05/13/2008 - 5:14pm

This situation should be a wake up call to all Middle residents as to what can happen to your property and quality of life. By supporting the Friends of Indian Trail you are supporting preserving your future.

But this is not only a quality of life property issue. This will impact our water supply. Committee says if it does we will build a desal plant. Who do you think will pay for that?

ONE HUNDRED ACRES of trees will be decimated and all the life in that area.

Let's hope the Zoning Board has the best interest of the people and the community at heart.

Fire at Former Indian Trail Landfill

By Al Campbell

BURLEIGH -- At 8:52 p.m. April 12, a fire was reported in the woods off Indian Trail Road in the vicinity of the former landfill.

At first, Rio Grande firefighters were summoned, but the call then went to Court House firefighters. The road is the dividing line between the two fire districts.

When Middle Township police officers arrived at the scene, they reported that the fire was atop the former landfill, in an area that was secured by locked gates.

It appeared, according to one officer, that the vents from that landfill were feeding the fire.
