County Remembers Victims of Sept. 11, 2001

CREST HAVEN — Along with the rest of the nation, Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders observed a solemn ceremony at 5 p.m. Sept. 11 to pay tribute to the 2,749 who died at the World Trade Center, 184 at The Pentagon and 40 in Shanksville. Pa.

A contingent of Coast Guard, county Police Academy members of the public attended the ceremony, outside the County Administration Building, 4 Moore Road.

Guest speakers were U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie, appointed to his post Sept. 10, 2001, and U.S. AMarshal James Plousis, former Cape May County sheriff.

"Shortly after our 9/11 Tragedy, the United Nations declared the value of inclusion to be the antithesis of barbaric, exclusionistic extremism.

It is fitting, therefore, in my view, there be a spirit of inclusion in all we do in the Post-9/11 Age to memorialize those who perished in our nation's most catastrophic event."

I posted the above remark at nj.com in response to an article I read relating to the additon of a brick walk to the Morris County's 9/11 memorial, and I'll post it here.

I appreciate the listing of all the victims of the 9/11 attacks and hope that this becomes an annual posting here at herald.com. Yes, include all those who perished on that day...and, perhaps, the spirit of this remembrance will spark and nourish a continued culture of inclusion throughout our county...throughout the years to come in all we do for each other.
