ACCC Book Program Gives Students Common Ground

COURT HOUSE -- Assistant Professor of Developmental English Stephanie Natale told the Atlantic Cape Community College Board of Trustees about the College-wide Book Program in which the entire college community reads the same book and engages in college-wide discussion.
A new book is selected every year with the intention, Natale said, to spark interdisciplinary discussion “on and off campus.”
“Some of my students tell me this is the first book they’ve ever read cover to cover,” she said.

COURT HOUSE—After a yearlong process of soliciting and reviewing proposals, Atlantic Cape Community College chose a new vendor for its management information system.
The board awarded a contract to Datatel of Fairfax, Va., for core business software and implementation at the Board of Trustees’ Sept. 23 meeting at the Cape May County Campus here.

Interested persons can attend information sessions about free healthcare training at ACCC's Cape May County Campus in Court House.
COURT HOUSE –– Residents of Cape May and Atlantic counties aged 55 or older can now pursue rewarding careers in the healthcare field through free training at Atlantic Cape Community College.
This federally funded program, a partnership between ACCC and the National Council on Aging, offers older adults training that will lead to employment in such professions as Certified Nurse Aide, Central Service Technician, Electrocardiogram Technician, Medical Billing and Coding, Phlebotomy and more.

State Warns College Students Of Bullying, Cyber-Harassment

TRENTON — College students are back to school and the state wants them concentrating on their studies and not worrying about online predators or Web bullies.
Attorney General Anne Milgram, therefore, asked colleges and universities in New Jersey Aug. 26 to warn incoming freshmen and returning students about the dangers of sexual predators surfing the Internet, and cyber-bullying and harassment.

ACCC Bridge Class Brings Challenges, Fun for Adults

COURT HOUSE –– Eleven retired adults are taking a noncredit Bridge class at Atlantic Cape Community College meeting every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. to noon for eight weeks.
In order to make three complete tables, instructor Norma Jakominich has enlisted her friend Jim Eberhart to fill in as the twelfth player.
The class focuses on “duplicate” Bridge, a variation of the contract game in which the same hands are drawn or “duplicated” at most of the tables playing, in order reduce "luck of the cards.”
