Bertha Drops to Tropical Storm

Tropical Storm Bertha's infared image shows a the storm is becoming disorganized in a July 13 satellite photo.

MIAMI, FLA. -- At 7 a.m. DST, July 13, Tropical Storm Bertha was nearly stationary with 70 mph winds about 220 miles southeast of Bermuda.

A drift toward the northwest is expected to begin later today and continue to Monday.

ALTHOUGH THE MOTION COULD BE ERRATIC AT TIMES AND COULD
BRING THE CENTER OF BERTHA CLOSER TO BERMUDA THAN THE FORECAST
TRACK INDICATES.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE DECREASED TO NEAR 70 MPH...115 KM/HR...
WITH HIGHER GUSTS. A SLIGHT WEAKENING IS EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT
COUPLE OF DAYS.

TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 140 MILES...220 KM.

I actually liked the remark about taxes... it's definitely going to avoid the People's Republic of Maryland, then! And if Obama is voted in, we can expect four years without hurricanes... since hurricane taxes (and everything else taxable) will go through the roof...

As of this time the National Weather Service says it will stay out at sea. We shall have to see. It will bring waves for the surfers.

We will see how fast this county empties out if that storm heads this way. Betcha lot of people come down just to have a storm party. As for me, I am heading to higher ground. Ooops, there is none in the county! Time to inflate the dinghy and get the paddles.
