By Herald Staff

WILDWOOD — Commissioners here finally voted Sept. 23 to pass the city's $27.1 million budget after reaching an agreement to sell city-owned water front land.

The city agreed to sell a 24-acre tract along the back bay between Bakers and Garfield avenues to developer SLRD Company-Mullica Hill LLC for $5 million. According to the agreement, $3 million is available for this year’s budget followed by $1 million in 2009 and 2010.

Wildwood city officials have a long history of balancing the budget through land sales and similar gimmicks.

Hey Taxpayers of Wildwood & Citizens of CMC, Do some research on SLRD-Mullica Hill LLC. Go online & see what you find. Call the phone # . Listen to their greeting then search CLEAN EARTH INC. It all sounds like a recycling center for CONTAMINATED SOIL,among other things. What DOES SLRD-MULLICA HILL LLC PLAN TO DO WITH THE PROPERTY? Citizens of CMC have a right to know. A right to know the TRUTH. What will we have in our backyards ?

You want to talk "sSmoke Screans"? What about the last 16 months? When a new commissioner was voted in. I am not in favor of any of the commissioners. Note by far! This circus going on in in city hall just fits right in with how the city of wildwood works. We need to go back to the othr form of government and we need to do that now! Why give the power to one? So that he may run the city into the ground ever further?????????

The Taxpayer is the only one being raked over the coals!!!!!

The mayor is going to be in the same position next year and I don't think he has anything left to sale. I am starting to think I made a huge mistake buying a home in Wildwood.

Has anyone questioned who SLRD-Mullica Hill LLC is ? Taxpayers of Wildwood, Citizens of CAPE MAY COUNTY, go online & search SLDR-Mullica Hill LLC see what you find. Call the phone # you see , then search CLEAN EARTH INC. Comment back here on your findings. Does anyone know about contaminated soil recycling centers? I don't, but I think it's time to learn.

We bought propertie(s) in Wildwood 3 years ago with high hopes of starting business and working towards revitalizing the once beautiful "Wildwood" Since coming here our dream has been smashed by a seemingly *** governing body. With the over all economy and mis handled affairs of this once great town we are deeply afraid to move forward with our plans to invest in a town that has to sell off land to balance their budjet. How about trimming the "fat" and getting rid of the over spending. We think that every tax payer in Wildwood should be mailed a copy of the budjet and have a chance to not only review it but to comment on ways to trim it. We have seen so much waste it makes us sick to think our tax dollars are supporting a governing body that doesn't have a clue. If we the common tax payers can come up with ideas on how to fix things maybe we need to take a stand and be heard. Look around tax payers the town is in shambles and the boardwalk which brings the tourist in is worse. PEOPLE stand up and take back your town before it's too late!! Pretty soon all the land will be sold and there will not be anything left but an eyesore.

*** Call the Attorney Generals Office report the crime commited by the Mayor and Davenport. Sign the Recall if and when it hits the streets. Storm City Hall and demand them out and call all the Phila .And Fox News and report it to them. There was a missconduct inoffice when he held a closed door meeting. THIS IS NOT HIS CITY RECALL RECALL RECALL .FILE COMPLAINTS TO STATE ANS D ATTORNEY GENERAL.

This agreement needs to be investigated. 1) Why was it done behind closed doors. When the city tried to sell the land when Sloan was Mayor public meetings were held, developers presented their plans and people could comment on the plan. Now with Troiano as mayor everything is done in secret and the public has no say in the matter. This should be a violation of sunshine laws. 2) Why is the sell of this land not open to public bidding? Why is SLRD Company-Mullica Hill LLC the only company involved? Some one should check to see if anyone in the company put money in the Mayors campaign fund. The sell of this land should be open to open bidding and should have been advertised. 3) When Sloan was mayor the selling price was $14 million now with Troiano as mayor the city is only getting $5 million. Why such a difference? It looks like we are selling the land cheep just to save the butt of the mayor. Whet is he going to do next year? The state needs to come in and investigate, investigat, investigate!

Okay............who do we contact to sign to get 'THE MAYOR' out of office!!! Does he really think we are that nieve? We must stop the games. He is taking lessons from Bush.....Bandaid, bandaid, bandage it and pray............Right Mr. Mayor!! Even the Herald quotes it as one of the many "Gimmicks" of Wildwood officials.

Wed, 09/24/2008 - 4:51pm

It is time the people of Wildwood put out the MAYOR AND DAVENPORT they can not control there speding and continue to run a curupt goverment. Comm. Demarzo is the smartest one in city hall and obstained from a band aid deal .There is nothing left to sell .Selling things is not the proper thing to do . The only thing is Recall them .

Wed, 09/24/2008 - 2:16pm

what a scam ! this calls for another investigation ! the county will have to start a new unit just to handle cases of official misconduct in wildwood. these guys are *** !!!!!!!!

Wed, 09/24/2008 - 2:07pm

When will the taxpayers and those in government learn that a band aid is a temporary cover to hide the wound. This 25.9 cent proposed increase is only been offset by 16 cents. Next year, you can calculate that same 9.9 cent, plus the additional 9.9 cents that has been added this year, that equals 19.8 cents. Subtract that from the anticipated cost of government on a year to year increase and there is your 6.1 cent realized inflation. So next year anticipate the same 25.9 cent increase. Now is the time to control wasteful spending, eliminate jobs by attrition,,,*** Freeze hiring for the next year, demand concessions from the unions-this year is contract negotiations-or face layoffs, Whatever they do, they must realize it is not business as usual. If only the high rises would some, that would add to the ratable base for taxes. The only thing the eatables would do is ease the effects of inflation. Someone still has to pay, high rises or not. It's not too much to ask to control spending and be responsible to the taxpayers-not to special interests and family/friends.

Two Ways to Determine County Education Costs Have Different Results

budget | 12 weeks 4 days ago | Comments 2

By Joe Hart

COURT HOUSE — What is the cost to Cape May County residents to educate their 13,000-plus public school pupils?

To judge education costs as this 2008-09 school year begins, the Herald looked at two indicators — per pupil costs and tax rates.

One local school district, the tiny elementary school in Sea Isle City, was notorious last year for having the highest per-pupil cost of education in the entire state — $35,209, or nearly three times the state average.

It is interesting that tuition for out of town kids to attend Stone Harbor school is less than what comparable day-care costs and yet the tuition to send Stone Harbor high school students to Middle costs 5 times more. Why should the taxpayers subsidize low cost Stone Harbor tuition? Just to keep the school open rather than combining with Avalon? Is it elitism and/or just plain selfishness or just plain ignorance?
