It is very clear to me from reading the comments on this article that there are many cop haters here in Lower Twp. and to you I say your un-appreciation makes me sick! These men were doing their jobs and all you can do is bash them and for what reason? Jealously I would guess, jealous because they are more competent, brave and giving human beings than you will ever be. They do their jobs and all you can do is complain, Shame on you.

to the *** that post at 9-24-08 at 7:45... yes mr. beck it took a total of 5 wonderful lower cops to handle one ***... the reason, this *** was wanted for aggrivated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon. im not sure how you taught things in the academy when a police officer comes across a dangerious man... what if that scumbag had a gun? Dont forget about upsetting year of 1994, a wonderful police officer, friend, husband, father responded to a suspicious man... and look what happen, was he overpaid? did he really need back up? how many Lower Cops did it take to take that scumbag down? you are a idoit, go back to philly and run as mayor there... you no nothing about lower township and we the PEOPLE OF LOWER TOWNSHIP are sick of your B.S. And to the man that asked about special police officers.... They go to a 480 hour academy, they have all powers of a full time officer only in lower township. they make arrests, make car stops, oh and risk there lives for a LOUSY 11 bucks an hour... i believe trashmen in the township make more than them... whats wrong with that picture... maybe this will be changed with a new mayor, but i highly doubt it if MR. Beck and TOTO get into office.... the population yes has decreased, but crime is rising everyday...

Maybe you should remain a "Shut - in". Lower Township Police have been one of the "LEAST" paid departments in the state. You could never have worked for Cape May Police "In The Office" because you would have failed the aptitude test. It sounds to me that every thing you have put in print was spoon fed to you by "Mr. Main Street" who complained on
Wed, 09/24/2008 - 7:45pm or By "Mr. Pain Street" Mike Beck. Now please, put your computer away and go to the library and pick up a good book. You really don't belong here as you sound like a nice guy. You see........this is a blog of Good versus Evil. The Police (who are the Good Guys here) versus Evil (the evil past politician and his cronies along with some scum bags who resent the fact that Good won). Now,.........the Good guys (the Police) drove the way they are suppose to and followed all the guide lines. You would know this if "You worked in THE OFFICE". But we know you didn't and we will forgive you for your planted comment. So just put down the mouse and back away from the keyboard. Every thing will be all right. So just grab a hold of Toto and click those heels together three times and keep repeating, "I won't vote for Beck, I won't vote for Beck, I won't vote for Beck, I won't vote for Beck"...................Sorry Dorothy, THIS AIN"T KANSAS !!!

Why not try a new approach as you have suggested? See how many LTTA bodies you can throw at a person fleeing from law enforcement, wanted for aggravated assualt on a police officer. Think that'll solve your problem, genius? Or how about mayoral candidates? Why not heave Mike Beck or Harvey Roach--both ex cops--at them? Maybe they can do a better job? I know they won't cost the township as much, right? That is untill they sue for being injured in the process.

It's not a stupid question. It's stupid Villas residents that think you can throw as many LTPD bodies at a problem to solve it rather than be proactive or preventative. It's that caveman mentality of "it's how we've ALWAYS done things". I only hope the increasing property taxes force these lowlifes and their moron children inland or out-of-state and more intelligent minds can PLAN for a better coastal community.

I suppose that I am not up to date on this issue. I had many friends that were Lower Township Police Officers at one time, worked with them in a civilian capacity with a county dept. They have all either moved on to the Prosecutors Office or retired or are serving the community in a different capacity. I also worked at Cape May Police Dept for a short time, a long long time ago in the office.
Anyway, I was told maybe it was about 12 years ago that Lower Township Police were among the highest paid township police in the state?
I know this has nothing to do with this wanted mans arrest.
What are these "special officers" that work part time? I never heard about that, I would like to know more about this issue.
I do read the news every day, I am virtually a shut-in. My PC is my window to the world.
But I guess, living in the Villas and being a shut-in may actually have some benefits.
I know for a fact that, at least years ago, these officers were given specific training about pursuit driving and how and when to do such a thing. Maybe that training is no longer provided?
I know if someone is in an ambulance and the situation is dire, the desire to break traffic laws to get that person treatment or to the hospital. But I also know that does not give the drivers of these emergency vehicles a free pass to flash their lights and whooop their siren and blow through a red light, by law.
If anyone can post some cited links to this "special officer" situation in Lower Township, I would greatly appreciate it.
Please forgive my ignorance of this situation, don't flame me! Please just tell me where I can read more about this so I can educate myself.
Thanks

I have a stupid question. If this man had all these warrants from several towns than that means each time he was stopped they should have been checked. If so a warrant would have appeared. So progressively he broke the law and the system did not work. He was out of jail and should have been in jail after a point. If the system worked the domestic would never have happened and the jerk would have been where he belongs, behind bars. When is enough enough?

Other than spending over half his police career in the academy away from the neighborhood toughs, what did Mike Beck do in Philly? Don't even tell me he walked a beat. If you told me he spent his career running away I'd believe that. He should have come from France.

I love how people tell the LTPD to be more pro-active. The Villas is a *** and the Lower Township Police Department spends most of their shift running from one problem to another. When is there time to be pro-active. If you read the paper you see that the LTPD usually handles two to five domestics a night and handles a variety of other calls. And to the person who called the officers "Rent a Cops". When someone breaks into your home and is beating you senseless you will hope and pray that one of those Rent A Cops comes to save your ***. These Rent a Cops do a great job and we need more cops in the township in order to be pro-active.

I for one dont care how many cops it took to get this person off the streets,Im just glad they got him and nobody got hurt.So good job POLICE DEPT.I read so many complaints about the amount of cops(7)if thats correct.Remember these men and women have families and I am glad they got to go home to them if thats what my taxes help them do than no problem.I would like to add though that I am tired of reading about being understaffed. If you surveyed every job they would feel they are in need of more people on the job.As for the cops that are the 11.00 an hour guys as written in other posts. You took the job knowing what it was about if its not what you want maybe somewhere else is a better choice.I dont think I know a cop that is only as good as thier paycheck or do it for the paycheck. They are supposed to do it for what the badge stands for.

11:07....what have you ever done in your life that warrents that comment? what do you do for a living? a cost-effect consultant i presume? oh, oh, oh, probably a high-ranking law enforcement official well-versed on manpower studies. or maybe you're an ex "cop" running for mayor with no real street expierence and bitter that you took the wrong test. it is good to see that out of all the comments posted here, only a couple of people apparently live in never-never land.

To the 11:07 person, Read the whole article it was not just a domestic disturbance he had outstanding warrants for other things and one was aggravated assault on a police officer with a weapon. Maybe you should look at your tax bill and see the school taxes are why the taxes are so high.

So, I just did a white pages lookup on Fitzgerald in the Villas area and lo and behold there's the *** with the address given by the distraught wife. If there were numerous warrants for his arrest, wouldn't it be easier for the LTPD to assign CLERICAL people to do the search rather than wait for the occasion to send 5 officers after him while in the commission of ANOTHER crime! Maybe they need to spend less time at the Wawa getting free coffee and more time being PROACTIVE in getting these lowlifes off the streets. Oh, that's right it would jeopardize the LTPD budget for recruiting more FT officers for all the crime in LT. The LTPD is a joke and so are the current politicians. We need some common sense not rhetoric.

The only time 7 public works personnel, 3 large equipment machines, and 5 hours to fix a pothole in front of a house is when its on Caroline Avenue.
»
Thu, 09/25/2008 - 11:07am
Now I understand why our property taxes are so high if it takes 5 LTPD to handle a domestic disturbance. Sort of like the 7 public works personnel, 3 large equipment machines, and 5 hours to fix the pothole in front of my home. We need someone to compare cost basis with neighboring towns to see if our budgets are within reason.

So what would be an appropiate level of action? He is wanted for multiple warrants including assualting an officer on top of the fact that they are looking for him on a domestic assualt call. He obviously has no fear of performing pyshical acts of violence towards police or the genreal citizens, but you would rather one officer attempt to contain him. I have heard many times lower pd backing off of pursuits, off recent memory a scumbag that was huffing glue and tried evade. Lower PD takes the appropiate level of actions to protect the public and themselves. As a citizen with children in the township I am glad to see how well our officers work every day. Lambert taking drug dealers off the street almost daily and now Doherty removing convicted sex offenders, keep up the great work. I can gaurentee my vote won't be for putting in someone who wants to downsize, we need more cops and we need them now.

Unless you are trained in law enforcement or trained in domestic violence, you have no clue how dangerous a situation these officers were faced with, and had to make quick decisions during. SPOII's are trained, sworn officers with the same police powers. Young people who are called to law enforcement as their profession are willing to risk their lives for little more than minimum wage to help keep you, the public, safe. Every officer wants to go home after their shift. And, thank god the victim was able to get away from her abuser and called the police. The most dangerous time for a domestic violence victim is when they break the cycle of violence being perpetrated against them. DV is all about the perpetrator's need for power and control over the victim. Anger is used as a weapon of intimidation. A strong, brave woman she is. Well done again, LTPD - stay safe out there!

Here we go again! One of Beck's *** puppets broke from it's strings and is running it's mouth again! The LTPD did a fine job in getting that criminal off of the street. He had many warrants the worst one for using a weapon to assault a police officer. These officers gave chase and the dirtbag ran! What did you expect the cops to do say have a nice day! The police get paid to protect and serve and they did that! The criminal is locked up where he belongs and nobody got hurt so I don't want to hear all of the what if someone got hurt ***! Waaaaaa...the cops were speeding!!! Of coarse they were!!! They were chasing a criminal!!! THAT'S WHAT THEY GET PAID TO DO!!!! If they hadn't chased him, you BUPPETS (Beck's Puppets), would have a problem with that!!! Oh and the water thing!!! Yeah, let the guy swim out with pepper spray in his eyes, get caught up in the current and drown!!! I guess you wouldn't be blasting the LTPD for that!!! They had a split second to think of how to resolve the issue and they did it well. In fact, they may have saved that mans life!!! So all of you Buppets out there do me a favor since you hate cops...the next time you or your family needs emergency assistance, pull your head out of Beck's rear and ask him for help!!!!! You people are unbelievable!!!!!

I think retired nurses and ex-cops with resentment issues that never really worked a day in their life, should leave the present police department alone! The majority of township residents are happy with the performance their police department provides each and every day. Maybe you should pack up your miserable little band of thugs, take the criminals and scumbags with you and start your own police department? You can pay them $10 an hour, if that, and let nature run its course off on your own little island paradise far-far away.

Hey Mr. Beck, When you post your comment on 9/24/08 at 7:45pm I thought you as a retired police officer know there are times when you need to continue a chase, and this scum bag needed to be caught. Lets remember when we are all in our houses with our children these these officers are out doing what they do to keep our streets as safe as possible, they are putting their lives on the line. This scum bag was out of control and you needed as many officers as available, well let's see iif you get into office there might be only 1-2 officers and maybe a scum bag like this could get away. And are you kidding about the equipment that was lost (maybe acouple hundred) or it sounds like you would have stopped the chase, let him continue living here in our town. Good job LTPD
»
Thu, 09/25/2008 - 7:18am
This is a reply to many of the postings, first this guy was worth the chase, he was a man who had many warrants and definatly needed to be arrested. Would you rather this scum live in OUR town then tell his friends and relatives to move down! To the other scum who posted "teach him to hit a cop" it sounds like you are one of those who need to be arrested, this is OUR town and we don't need people like you either! I realize this person will get out of jail someday, probably to soon, although hopfully this scum bag like many others will realize Lower Township is not the place for them. In conclusion great job to OUR town officers.

First off, great job L.T.P.D. The township definately got their $11 worth out of Iames and Kennedy. Secondly, to the idiots of the township who complain about LTPD. Who are you going to call when you get into a car accident? Who are you going to call if your house catches on fire? Who are you going to call when you have a heart attack thinking about how "over paid the cops are?" THE LOWER TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT! Yep, thats right, after all the bashing they take, they are still going to show up and help you out. It's funny how it works though. You do nothing but hate on the cops until you need their help. If you don't like it, I invite you to move out of the town. We live in a great place, with a great police department, and with a relatively low crime rate. Comparing us to Philly is a joke. It just does'nt make sence. So, when you are in need, think about all the negativity you have spread about the pople that are risking their lives to come save you.

So many people want to complain about the LTPD and how they do their job. If people think it is so easy maybe they should try being a cop and do what they do. I for one believe the police do a good job and i also expect if i need them to have them in a reasonable amount of time. I do not understand the thinking of a few comments why was it was necessary to get him from the water. Let me see a possibly drunk subject in the water that says he was going to kill his wife, running from the police What do you think the lawyers would of done if he drowned and how much would we of paid for the dirt bag?? Stop being a bunch of a---- and remember if you do not like how the people of lower are being protected more to phila. Question to the wed 7:45 commenter are you stupid or just a plain dumb I am not a cop but i know when things go bad they go fast .
I do hope the people(police) you call clown's think for a long time before they show up for your call some day.
And this forum being used to bash a political member is also a joke. People need to shut and listen to what the canidates are preaching and vote in the one that may be the most benefical for the township.

Hey Wed 7:45 pm ...This guy had an active warrant on him for Agg assault on a Police Officer with a weapon and had just threatened to kill his wife.
Next time why dont you arrest the Bad Guy all by yourself, it should be easy right?
The LTPD knows how many "Scum Bags" it takes to kill a cop ( ONE ) because they have already had an Officer shot and killed in the line of duty.
And you can bet your LTTPA butt that the family of the Brave Phila Police Officer who was shot and killed yesterday wishes he had more back-up officers there for him as well.

How many LT cops does it take to handle one scumbag? At $80 to 100,000 a year in pay, I think Mr. Beck has the right idea. These clowns need to THINK before ACTING. Instead, there is property damage, a high-speed chase through the neighborhood that could have caused more injuries to innocent bystanders (I witnessed the obscene speeds on a residential street), and police equipment that needs to be replaced. These cops must watch too many TV shows to think they need this much activity to restrain one person.

Good job LTPD, another scumbag off the street...This is why we need these Special Officers to become fulltime so they can get health benifits. Residents of Lower township these fine young men are making a difference in your community for a wopping 11 bucks an hour.. whats wrong with this picture...you give a young man a badge and a gun and pay them crap money to protect your community... According to a police report, while officers were en route to this call the manager called back and reported that the suspect was now threatening customers with a knife.

Officer Marriner did a great job handling this situation in the way he was trained to do. Nobody was hurt and it could have been worst. Officer Marriner is only one of the many men & women who go above and beyond their call of duty. This Corrections officer and far more in our community never get the full thanks they deserve. The are brave outstanding people! They keep these kinds of men off the street and inside the jails until our government lets them out. I will still to this day not understand why the police officers in this town get more respect then the correction officers that are endangered with these slum of society wackos day in and day out. How these police officers in Cape May County protect and serve is more then admirable but as far as I am concerned the corrections officers deal with the lowest of society and never get the glory and glamour. They don't get the flashing lights and fast cars but their life is constantly on the line. They don't even get a complimentary coffee from Wawa when the patrolmen do. This story goes to show what stand up people are doing to protect us behind the scenes. Way to go Correction Officer Marriner, Wawa was lucky to have you that day. I hope they know it!!!
Corrections Officers are some of "Cape May Counties" finest at risk everyday. A special thanks to all of you today!!!!

Wow...I'm surprised it wasn't his normal 25k bail! I guess when it involves a cop, they up the ante. A normal person and he only would have received a slap on the wrist or 25k bail. Also, Deja Vu at that very secure hospital. A name change can't change the fact that the ER and security is a joke. This is numerous times that they have had problems with people in police custody including a gun incident a couple of years ago. Their security couldn't fight off a Golden Girls reunion concert.

I blame the courts and the judges, and should the police have to one day, shoot this guy in self defense, the blood will flow back to them for not seeing this guy as a threat to society the first time he pulled such a stunt. There should be no excuse for having to handle this guy for a third time, but we all somehow know different.
