COURT HOUSE -- It’s not surprising that some persons who might know something about a murder that occurred in 1982 would be hard to find. They might have disappeared, forgotten what they once remembered, or died in the ensuing years.
These are unique challenges when you're defending a client accused of a murder that occurred 25 years ago, according to attorney Dave Stefankiewicz.

just so we get everything clear his wife was found innocent towards helping him escape. it was a peice of the coat hanger that fell in his pocket so we need to leave that poor woman out of this she is nothing but a bystander. and there is no evidence against george carty. so in the very least he needs and deserves a fair trial and we should all hope that he will be out of the jail nad to his family by christmas

If Carty is so innocent why did his wife try and help he escape. An innocent man would be able to prove that he is not guilty.

The evidence in this case is so sketchy....no DNA, no witnessess and no evidence. The prosecution has stated their "big evidence" is a so called confession that it turns out isn't a confession at all. Something smells here...I know that the Sherriff's office is involved in a lawsuit, trying to keep their budget from being cut and to justify the manpower they have. The timing on their "cold case" arrests is ironic. It's terrifying to think that any of us could have our lives and reputations destroyed, and our freedom taken away based on such flimsy and questionable evidence. My opinion is that a good investigative reporter could have career making story looking into Mr. Carty's case and the other cold case arrests around the same time frame for this jurisdiction.

At the very least I would like to know why Mr. Carty is being held in our county jail on high bail that he cannot pay to get out. He is not a flight risk. He is an educated professional who can still have a career as a doctor when he is found not guilty by a jury. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? What is up with this Judge Batten not lowering his bail. I believe he is entitled to bail so that he can participate in his own defense. He is definately innocent. Afterall, this character attenborough was known to get drunk and drive around picking up hitch hikers. He was nasty and not well liked by anyone. There are a number of people who could have killed him. It was probably a hitch hiker.

I think they have the wrong person. I think it was a family member whom the evidence also points to as well. Why was the family not upfront and questioning the investigation? I see a BIG coverup!
