Affordable Housing Census Needs Helpers

Sturdy Savings Bank recently donated to help Bridges, a youth intervention program run through The Great Commission Baptist Church, in its quest to provide affordable housing. Sturdy’s support will help Bridges renovate a single-family home previously used for storage. The goal is to prepare the house for a needy family. From left is Rev. Robert John Stahler, Ronald A. Sulpizi, Sturdy’s branch administrator, Daniel Auld, director of Bridges, and Richard Payne, Sturdy’s commercial lending officer.
COURT HOUSE — People who need, or who are concerned about the lack of affordable housing in Cape May County are being asked by Daniel Auld to gather at The Branches at Rio Grande (formerly Miracles Fitness) in the rear plaza of The Village Shoppes of Rio Grande, at 5 p.m. to begin to mobilize a campaign to get government officials to listen.
"It is time for the elected officials and government in Cape May County to know that this county is not excluded from assisting people from obtaining affordable housing," said Auld in an interview at the Herald's offices.

I hope Sturdy Savings looks a little further into donating anything to this church. It has been accepting donations to renovate this same building for over 10 years supposedly for missionaries. Ruby Walker, a Cape May Court House Resident, begun this movement as reported by this paper back in May, and happens to be the future mother-in-law of the pastor of this church's oldest daughter. Something stinks here!

Wasn't this the little building that was supposed to be used for vacationing missionaries? I remember sending my children to their summer bible camp and all the money was supposed to renovate that little house for missionary use. Whatever happened to all that money? How is affordable housing for low-income people of the county missionary housing? If this is a genuine 'church' and they want to remain honest before the Lord, they should return every penny that was given to make that house a place for missionaries OR give the money back to Sturdy and pray.

I see that this is the same storage shed that the Great Commission Baptist Church has been collecting funds for renovation to use as quarters for visiting missionaries. The funds have been collected for at least 10 years and obviously none of it has been directed toward the repair of the shed.
Now more donations are being accepted from the corporate sector?
Nice gesture from Sturdy Savings, but don't waste your money.

COURT HOUSE — A judge is making the Middle Township Zoning Board of Adjustment take another look at a Rio Grande apartment complex application.
On Sept. 13 last year, developer William Juliano and his company Rio Victorian Village LLC were denied a use variance for a six-building 288-unit mid-rise apartment complex proposed for a 21-acre site on Railroad Avenue near Route 47. The site is the former home of a concrete plant.
Rio Victorian Village was previously granted a use variance for 342 age-restricted units on the site.

TOWN BANK — Haven House, a low-income senior apartment complex on Townbank Road, constructed by Diocesan Housing Services Corporation of the Catholic Diocese of Camden, is plagued with a number of construction-related problems ranging from water leaks, broken air conditioning units to a trash compacting system that can not be used.
The complex, behind St. John-of-God Church, started accepting residents in April and celebrated its grand opening last month when Bishop Joseph Galante, of the Diocese of Camden, cut the ceremonial ribbon.

The "New project manager" in charge of this mess has No construction experience AT ALL (resume is posted in Housing Services Corp documents). That person never worked in trades, never banged a nail, never installed a pipe, never pulled a wire. That person was recently promoted to Regional Development manager. ??????????????

AUDIT, AUDIT, IAUDIT books of Housing services corp and all properties run by Housing services corp. Things do not appear right. Make sure its a outside accounting firm that does the audit. HSC gets a great deal of money from HUD. Most of it section 202. Victorian Towers is a section 236 thru New Jersey Housing.

$11 million dollars is a lot to give a bishop who's already proved he can be bought off by a mere $400k. HUD really overpaid.

The Housing services corp of the Camden Dioceses has no idea whats it doing. One of their complexs (Davenport Village) is sinking and entire complex must be torn down. . Stonegate (opened about one year ago) has alot of problems also. HUD should not give this corp any additional money.

What happens when there's a REAL fire somewhere else and someone's house is burned down because the fire dept was out on a false alarm at Haven House. They should be fined for all these false alarms. Sock them with a big fine - then maybe they'll spend some money to correct the problem.

How about the 19 fire alarms since the place first opened I hope there never is a real fire at that location the residents are so use to the alarm no one even pays attention to it.

this property is example of everything that is wrong with government projects. Poor materials, poor workmenship and a project manager with no construction experience. Under no circumstance should the Housing Services Corp of Diocese of Camden (The catholic church) be given another cent. They did such a great job caring for your children, why shouldn't we trust the with 12 milliion plus. Wise up folks.

wed 6/25 759 comment I hear the alarms were over 16 calls and the time for the construction company personal to respond was over an hour each time. The biggest concern was the people with no management on site I heard the alarm has been fixed But I really hope these seniors know what to do if a real fire does happen.

Oh yeah, he cares alright. Ask him how many times the fire department has been there due to faulty fire system in that facility. Probably somewhere near 10 times, and there is never anyone there to let the fireman in to check on the seniors there. All Father Forbes cares about is how much do ra mi the church is taking in their tills.
