WILDWOOD CREST — The borough’s Church of the Assumption won’t have to close its doors at the end of the season.
Bishop Joseph A. Galante announced Aug. 26 that Assumption would be allowed to hold services through the whole year.
The Church of the Assumption was slated to merge with St. Ann’s Church in Wildwood and would remain open only part of the year, under the diocese’s original restructuring plan.

this property is example of everything that is wrong with government projects. Poor materials, poor workmenship and a project manager with no construction experience. Under no circumstance should the Housing Services Corp of Diocese of Camden (The catholic church) be given another cent. They did such a great job caring for your children, why shouldn't we trust the with 12 milliion plus. Wise up folks.

wed 6/25 759 comment I hear the alarms were over 16 calls and the time for the construction company personal to respond was over an hour each time. The biggest concern was the people with no management on site I heard the alarm has been fixed But I really hope these seniors know what to do if a real fire does happen.

Oh yeah, he cares alright. Ask him how many times the fire department has been there due to faulty fire system in that facility. Probably somewhere near 10 times, and there is never anyone there to let the fireman in to check on the seniors there. All Father Forbes cares about is how much do ra mi the church is taking in their tills.

When is the Bishop moving in? He's past retirement age after all. I'd bet he'd be good organizing canasta parties.

Unfortunately, there are too few priests in every diocese. And too few "Catholics" regularly attend services in every diocese. We all know that the population of Cape May County has grown since all of these parishes were founded. Proportionally, there should be a need for MORE parishes, and not less, but that is not the reality of the situation. However, I do think that the Bishop would be better off trying to put backsides in those pews every Sunday, instead of figuring how to save money by closing down parishes.
I was glad to see that the issue of senior citizens is finally be addressed. Most regular worshippers are older individuals, many of whom should not be driving at all, let alone to more distant churches. To make the opportunity to attend Mass and the Sacraments more difficult for old folks would be inexcusable.
Although I have not lived in Cape May County for may years, I still visit regularly on a year round basis. I have attended Mass at several of the parishes slated for closure, and I share the pain of those who are losing their churches. I also regret that I was not better in my attendance at the parishes I lived in, years ago. Perhaps if all of the Catholics in New Jersey realized what they are losing, by not having local parishes as a spiriitual and social connections to their communities, they would be back in church, and this wouldn't have to happen.
