Christmas concert returns to Assumption

The Church of the Assumption, 7110 Seaview Ave., Wildwood Crest, once again presents “The Sounds of Christmas,” when the BelCanto Lyric Company & Symphony Orchestra returns for the 8th Annual Christmas Concert, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $20.
Back by popular demand, the company performs “Christmas on Broadway” and a medley of traditional Christmas music, along with the Three Tenors with Anthony Pirollo conducting.

Halloween is over, but on Nov. 21, a cadre of wizards and witches and other shadowy figures will gather under cover of night to hoot and holler and sing incantations in (of all places) the basement of the Cape May County Library.

Jazz returns to Cape May

Adding to the Ferguson Tribute Friday night ex-Ferguson musician Michael Pedicin will be in Carneys Other Room.
The Cape May Jazz Festival continues its 15-year tradition Nov. 7-9.
Friday night’s opener kicks off with a Tribute to Maynard Ferguson featuring a 16-piece big band led by Ed Vezinho and Jim Ward. This performance will be held in the Theatre at Lower Regional High School.
Jon Faddis, internationally acclaimed high-register trumpeter, will solo with the band saluting Ferguson’s music. Ferguson, jazz legend and internationally famous big band leader, was one of the world’s great trumpet and brass instrument players dazzling the world with his trumpet blasts.

Balalaika Orchestra at Music Pier

The renowned Kauriga Balalaika Orchestra will perform a lively concert of Russian, Ukrainian and Slavic folk music 7:30 p.m., Sat., Oct. 25 at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace in Ocean City.
Folk dancers and singers will be included in the lively and inspiring program.
Tickets are $5, available at City Hall Annex, 901 Asbury Ave., 609-525-9300 or at the door. City Hall Annex is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Children 12 and under are free.

Real rock ‘n roll returns to Wildwoods

It wouldn’t be a 50s celebration without classic cars.
It’s a half-century earlier in Wildwood this weekend, so you can revisit your teens (or you parents’ teens) at the Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce 5th Annual Fabulous ‘50s Weekend.
The celebration runs Friday, Oct. 17 through Sunday, Oct. 19.
Girls, wear your bobby sox; guys, comb your hair into a ducktail, enjoy the classic rock ‘ roll, the classic cars, and the classic good times.
Jerry Blavat hosts a ‘50s record hop, 7-11 p.m. at the Wildwoods Convention Center. Tickets are $10 per person and may be purchased online at fabfifties.com or by calling 609-729-4000.

Love Affair

The fun, high-energy beats of the dance band Love-Affair can make a dance machine out of anyone, any age. The band formed seven years ago and hasn't left the stage since.
Performing throughout the year from Philly to New York, Love-Affair brings a mix of Motown and soul of the 60s, and dance and disco sounds of the 70s and 80s to their performances, and they’re sure to leave your dancing shoes well worn-out.
Drummer and manager Dominick Sica has been performing during his summers in Wildwood since he was 15-years-old.

Gina Roché, internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist, will perform Sunday, Sept. 21 at the First Presbyterian Church of Cape May, corner of Decatur and Hughes streets, Cape May. The show will begin at 8 p.m. and is free, although a donation is requested.
Roché has performed regularly in this jazz series over the past several years, despite giving birth to two girls in that time. Over the past year, aside from performing in venues all over the region, Gina has been writing songs for a new CD.
