The Ocean City Fire Department will host a “Fire Prevention Night Open House” on Wednesday, October 15, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at their headquarters at 550 Asbury Avenue.

This free event will include a variety of fire safety tips and materials, fire house tours, live demonstrations and refreshments. Children can have their pictures taken with special guests Smokey the Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog and enjoy face painting and more.

Prof. Hart, who is currently a professor of mechanical engineering at Lehigh University, will be discussing experiences as a former astronaut, his work at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and his flights in space. Hart will also be available after the lecture to sign autographs and answer guests' questions. The lecture series is presented in memory of Cape May County resident and World War II Naval Airman Curtis Napier.

Dr. Casway will discuss the legendary era of baseball and the great Irish personalities who dominate it. The program will be held in the gymnasium and is free of charge and open to the public.

Avalon Players is a theater group composed of children ages six through 15. Each year the Players rehearse throughout the summer to perform a Broadway classic. This year's show is "Beauty and the Beast."

One unique aspect of this group is that every child who auditions is given a role. This year's show is Thursday, July 31, Friday, Aug. 1 and Saturday, Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 3 at 5 p.m.

All shows are at the Avalon Elementary School. Tickets are $7, and they are General Admission and are available at the door.
