To The Editor:
Regarding the editor’s note on the Spout Off in the April 30 edition about St. Ann’s Church:
I have no idea what church you go to, but I'm willing to bet it’s not St. Ann's. If you did you would know exactly what the spouter is talking about.
First of all, every year it’s the same thing. The priest has to beg and plead with folks to pull up according to the lines in the parking lot. This would make leaving much easier, but some people have to park along the outside because if they don't they couldn't leave right after Communion. This is a common practice with vacationers… after all they may miss a few minutes in the bar or on the beach.
As for the mode of dress, stop down some week. You would think you were going to a picnic or baseball game instead of to Mass. You would be shocked to see how some people come to church, and don't hand me that old "God doesn't care how you dress" garbage. He deserves respect.
We don't have greeters, but we should start using them. That way we could collect the cell phones as people come in the door. How do you think you would like it if at the Consecration of the Mass the person next to you had their cell phone ringing? Not only did it ring, but the person answered it and talked to the caller.
I know this is due only to the individual who did it, but still the editor had no right to criticize the spouter without knowing the facts. Because there are so many ignorant people in this world these things do happen, and I know exactly where this spouter is coming from. It's about time someone said something.
Oh, and by the way, before you say “how do we know it’s the visi-tors?” It didn't happen all winter.
I just wanted the editor to know that he jumped the gun with his remark about being glad the spouter was not a greeter. I'm sure the spouter is just someone who would like to see a little respect shown for St. Ann's and the other folks who really want to be at Mass. I think the editor owes him an apology.
