How many times do you begin tackling a new project by praying something like this: “Dear Lord, please keep me safe and let all go well as I begin this task for you?” I think that it is very difficult for us to comprehend and accept that all things going well is something God never guaranteed us this side of glory.

“Until we meet again, we’ll write.” This was one of the sentiments expressed by the Barrier Island Writers as they bid a fond farewell to Dr. Lucille “Sue” Jacobson, the instructor of the Avalon Library-based writing group.

Members of the Barrier Island Writers conveyed their thoughts and feelings to Jacobson through heartfelt writings, during her final class at the library, as she and her husband will be moving from the area. Following the class, the group gathered for a luncheon honoring Jacobson at the Avalon Links Restaurant.

If I had a quarter for every person who, in the past 10 years, said to me “You work where?” I’d probably be retired. It has become a mission in my working life to inform as many people in Cape May County as I can about the good things done by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities. Too many words…let’s just use MAC.

The tall, gangly-limbed man climbed on the dias and waited. He waited an interminable time for the featured speaker to finish his two-hour oration. When he finally rose and delivered the words which have become the most moving and recognizable words of dedication in our nation’s history, the crowd listened as they had all day, with great emotion and respect.

Bullfeathers! Who says government can’t create jobs? Look no farther then our own humble Cape May County. Why, there are plenty of jobs, even in this gut-wrenching, recession-tainted economy. There is one slight consideration. To snag one of those jobs it surely does help if one has the correct letter after their name. Shucks, what’s party affiliation among friends? It’s no big deal, right? This is, after all, a free country and we can vote any way we want.
