Katie's Flight for the Fight celebrates the life of Katie Smith as well as all those affected by this 4th leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. Each year, more than 37,000 Americans are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer--the disease that recently took the life of "Last Lecture" professor Randy Pausch, opera legend Luciano Pavarotti and which actor Patrick Swayze is now facing with such grace.
The dramatic butterfly release symbolizes the beauty, strength and hope we honor in all who have faced this deadly disease. As with Katie, who was 32 years old and pregnant with her and her husband James' first child when she was diagnosed, pancreatic cancer often moves swiftly and devastatingly. By supporting Katie's Flight for the Fight, you help the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network create hope for the pancreatic cancer community.
