CAPE MAY, NJ, July 28, 2008 - The Beach Theatre Foundation announced today that it will be presenting ballet performances in breathtaking HD digital projection & 5.1 sound at the historic Beach Theatre in Cape May.
The three ballet performances will be on 3 consecutive Thursdays in August. The first two performances come from the world famous Russian ballet company from the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. The final performance comes from Teatro alla Scala, the Milan theatre that is admired for their opera productions.
On Thursday, August 14th, the Bolshoi production is “Bolt”. Shostakovich’s second ballet brings together serious and popular music. First performed in 1931, the ballet had been forbidden to be performed for over 30 years. The Moscow Times calls it, “...one of the theatrical events that can cause even the most jaded viewer to stand up and cheer.”
On Thursday, August 21st, the Bolshoi Ballet is entitled “The Pharaoh’s Daughter.” Music os by Cesare Pugni and the choreographer is Pierre Lacotte from Marius Petipa. The New York Times review: “...with “The Pharaoh's Daughter”, the Bolshoi has a vehicle in which the company’s prima ballerina, Svetlana Zakharova can shine...”
On Thursday, August 28th, the ballet will come from La Scala. It is entitled “Mediterranea” with music by Mozart, Ligeti, G.P da Palestrina and music from the Mediterranean area. The ballet focuses on the gestures and the moves in a refined balance between lyricism and pure energy. Dance Magazine calls it “A hit with the public, Mediterranea was acclaimed by critics for its power....”
“These acclaimed ballet performances continue the foundation’s dedication to bringing entertainment to Cape May and Southern New Jersey that is not traditionally seen in the region. Additionally, the funds raised from these special events will help us in our quest to protect and save our historic community theatre.”, said Steve Jackson, the Beach Theatre Foundation’s President.
