First of all, to whomever decided that they know the exact identities of these kids, you are wrong about them being the cause of all of the drug problems in cape may county. Kids CANNOT be responsible for such a widespread plague. They can attribute to it, of course. But you can't call them the derivative of such troubles.

They were able to afford a car for these kids to drive. And it was 6:30 in the morning and they were already (still) drunk. All their parents were working all night and still in the morning? Come on!

I have read all the posts here and many have valid points. I hope that those that were injured will have a full recovery and learn a life lesson from all of this.
The bottom line is these kids as a group made a bad choice, that does not mean they are bad kids. I have young children myself and I know I parent them to the best of my ability and I DO talk to them about everything in terms they may understand for their age. I still worry about what is to come in my future. I hope that I have instilled in them the knowledge to make the right choices, but I cannot hold their hand through every step in life, and that scares me. We were all teenagers once and better sit back and think about all the dumb choices we once made and we did feel invincible. We as a society have a responsibilty to teach the children of today how to become productive members of society. It takes a village to raise a child..they have said it for many years, but it is clearly needed in today's society. Most homes are either single family homes or have both parents working because of financial needs. Today's economy is horrible. Not many families are fortunate enough to have a stay at home parent, but it seems like it is more needed now then ever! For those of you that do not have any finacial problems and make sure your kids have whatever they need and want...just remember you kids can afford to buy this stuff with their allowance. Instead of bashing teens on this forum, take a stand and do something about. Start by lobbying for more drug/alcohol/mental issue eduction within the schools. Provide parents who are trying to help their kids when they are in trouble with more avenues, instead of ignoring the issue as many people in society do...including schools and local government. We clearly have a huge epidemic in our teens and we just sit back and ignore it...but make time to bash children and their parents on a forum like this. These kids will be running our country soon...if we don't help them now...how will they help us in the future?
I hope that people read this and know that I do not condone this situation, it was an accident and I hope everyone fully recovers ...sincerely. Stop *** about it and act upon it. Write to your legislators and have them incorporate more drug awareness programs and provide better facilities for those children that have gone a little further than experimentation to get the proper help. What do these kids have to do for extracurricular activities? This problem is not occurring in a handful of kids....it is MOST kids whether you want to believe it or not. Addiction does not discriminate.

These families are all in my prayers.

I think that no one should assume that they know what kind of parents these kids have. You can talk to your kids until you are blue in the face . When they walk out the door, they will do whatever they are caught up in at that time. Stop wasting energy on blaming someone!

I agree with the spouter from Tue, 06/24/2008 - 5:05pm. I dont think anyone would write whats written on here if it was someone they (driver) hit. The driver is just lucky that it was no longer the school year or else kids would have been out waiting for the bus.

I will admit everyone makes mistakes in life but it seems anymore to me the teens are making a lot of them. And I am saying this as a teen, look how many teen inncidents have been going on lately. I think that each teen involved needs to step up for the actions and take the responsability that comes with it. The parents of the teens need to talk with their kids about whats going on in the world.

Tue, 06/24/2008 - 5:05pm

to 2:29 you would not be saying this and sticking up for these kids if it was you they hit.... These kids need to get a life and really think about what they do before they do it! Wise up think before you drink and drive call a TAXI thats one of the main reasons they have them!!!

Tue, 06/24/2008 - 2:29pm

I can't believe all the bashing going on. Have we no hearts or compasion. Yes ALL these kids have participated in a very tragic-life altering choice. But, this is no way to help the situation. Do we know what is going on in their lives that may have attributed to this. I pray for all the children and their families. If we bash these children and their families, we are no better. Why not try to help prevent this from happening again. Talk to you children about everything.

Tue, 06/24/2008 - 10:10am

FIrst of all, I'm not sure what your parents taught you, but when YOU mess up, it is YOUR fault. YOU need to take responsibilty for YOUR actions. This is a big problem with today's kids and society in general.

Second, if they want to drink and drive with their lives, they are LOSERS. Hopefully they don't hurt anyone else before they get themselves permanently injured or killed.

Third, good people do sometimes make bad decisions. But this was a few REALLY bad decisions. Before I call them bad people, let's wait and see what their next choices are in the face of their current circumstances. Buit like someone said below, good kids don't do these types of things.

I give my 9 year old a lot of freedom right now. He knows good from bad. I stress to him every day to make his choices carefully and always stand up to accept the consequences of those choices whether they are good or bad. Of course I always ask him to do the right thing, but he needs to know what happens when he makes bad decisions. And I won't hesitate to plant my foot squarely in his a$$.

Hopefully what my son is learning now will be enough to get him through life. The choices kids make these days scares me knowing my children will be that age way to soon. This accident also scares me since I drive that stretch of 47 at that time every day. Your friends could have just as easily killed me and my children on the way to the sitter yesterday. And whose fault would that have been?

With that said, these kids are in my prayers......

"although it was a bad choice for somneone who is 16 to drive let alone drink and drive...were teenagers we mess up sometimes...its not our fault..."

Just exactly whose fault do you think it is? Of course its their fault? If you drive you must take responsibility. Grow up and decide to make something of your life. I'm not picking on kids. Two adults have killed two teens in two weeks. It wasn't the teens fault in that case. All of us need to recognize that alcohol kills. However until you decide to take responsibilty please stay off our roads.

Tue, 06/24/2008 - 8:40am

what does it matter where your live....oh from Philly....that explains it....if your a drinking and driving at the age of 16 you are a loser....you will be in jail at some point in your life....your friends are bad kids....good kids dont do these types of things......wise up

Tue, 06/24/2008 - 7:49am

The fact that you are teenagers does not excuse you from the choices you make. Life is harder as a teen and peer pressure is tough but teenagers feel invincible and they feel the need to fit in. The coolest thing to do is be a good person and do the right thing.
These kids made the decision to let this driver drive as a group. They are all at fault. Let's not play the blame game. Take all this energy and pray for Kelsie!

Mon, 06/23/2008 - 11:06pm

first off my friends arent bad people...if you really knew them you would realize why they do such things...you can preach all you want about the things that people do...but really it all up to them they do what they want with their lives... and you cant change that.

although it was a bad choice for somneone who is 16 to drive let alone drink and drive...were teenagers we mess up sometimes...its not our fault...
fyi i dont live in nj.

many kids may be dying from alcohol and driving under the influence..i understand that...but it does not make them bad people they just made bad choices.

-dank.

Does anyone know how the girl who went to the tramua center is?

Mon, 06/23/2008 - 4:39pm

The children who currently have a liscence, should have them suspended. They allowed a 16 year old to drive and therefore, should be punished. I know these kids, and they are all problem children who are part of the drug problems in our area. Maybe they'll all stop buying and selling after they realize life is too precious to waste.

Mon, 06/23/2008 - 3:47pm

So what's your point? And why was your friend drinking, let alone driving at the age of 16? I believe drivning is permitted at 16 and half with a 21 year old licensed driver in the passenger seat...Were you at the party?

My prayers go out to the victims of both Route 47 accidents this weekend. Horrible, senseless tragedies. I wish people would realize how dangeraous Route 47 is (without alcohol involved) and just slow down.

Mon, 06/23/2008 - 3:42pm

1:17pm I am sorry that you're friends were hurt. They made a very decision to drink. By the grace of God they are alive and hopefully have learned a lesson that will last a life time. Too many kids are dying as a result of alcohol. Please encourage all your friends to choose life without drinking.

Mon, 06/23/2008 - 3:39pm

I would like to know what a 16 year old is doing drunk for one and driving for two??

Mon, 06/23/2008 - 2:49pm

Wow, you must be so proud!

Mon, 06/23/2008 - 1:17pm
