Harbor Fest 2008

06/21/2008 - 7:00p.m. to 06/21/2008 - 7:00p.m.

On Saturday, June 21, 2008, the City of Cape May will launch Harbor Fest 2008, the first of what promises to become an annual celebration of seafood and song; the sea, its traditions, its economy and its ecology in Cape May.
Given Cape May’s long history as a commercial seafaring city, the inaugural Harbor Fest will begin on Friday evening, June 20, with a brief service at the Fisherman’s Memorial located at the end of Missouri Avenue on Cape May Harbor. This “Blessing of the Waters” service will commemorate the memory of Cape May commercial fishermen who have been lost at sea over the years. The memorial service will begin at 7:00 p.m.
The special evening will conclude with a Summer Solstice Family Campfire at the Nature Center of Cape May. Commercial fishermen, their families and friends, and the general public are invited to join this evening of storytelling, songs, and marshmallow roasting.
The nature center is located at 1600 Delaware Ave., just around the corner from the Fisherman’s Memorial.
