The Nature Center of Cape May invites you to explore the world of snakes and amphibians with two great nature programs in May.
On Saturday, May 24 at 10:30 a.m., join Dave Schneider of Herpetological Associates, Inc. for a hands-on program entitled “Snakes of New Jersey.” Discover the variety of snakes that inhabit our local habitats, and find out why many of their populations have declined and are now threatened or endangered. Don't miss this opportunity to see snakes up close, and learn what we all can do to help protect them. “Snakes of New Jersey” will take place at the nature center’s home at 1600 Delaware Ave., in Cape May. Preregistration is recommended.
Slimy, squiggly, swimmy amphibians will be the stars of the “Pond Peekers” program, led by naturalist Paige Cunningham on Saturday, May 31, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Participants will use dip nets to delve into the lively worlds of ponds for a close-up view of tadpoles, frogs, fish, water invertebrates, and salamander larva. Participants are to meet at the Villas Wildlife Management Area off of Bayshore Road, in Lower Township. “Pond Peekers” is for children ages three and up with an adult. Dress to get wet!
The fee for each program is $8.00 adults and $5.00 children ages three to twelve for New Jersey Audubon Society members and $10.00 adults and $7.00 children ages three to twelve for nonmembers. There is no fee for children under three years. Call 609.898.8848 to preregister and get directions for either program.
